About this deal

False Value – Facing fatherhood and an uncertain future, Peter’s emotions oscillate between anxiety and excitement. Rejecting passivity, he joins the nascent London venture of Terrence Skinner, a tech genius from Silicon Valley, known as the Serious Cybernetics Company. The PC Grant Novels. Orion Publishing Group. 13 July 2018. ISBN 9781473214385 . Retrieved 4 March 2023. Aaronovitch will be an executive producer, and said he was “confident that together we can produce some ridiculously brilliant television”. I’m a big fan of the Peter Grant series, and yet I’ve avoided the graphic novels for one reason: I’m not a fan of graphic novels. I’ve tried to get into them a few times, yet I find it extremely difficult. I can understand the appeal, I can see why there are so many graphic novel fans out there, but I doubt I will ever be one. Nevertheless, my curiosity about the Peter Grant graphic novels remained. Thus, I decided it was time to borrow Body Work from the library. https://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/drama/rivers-of-london-set-writing-team-led-by-the-gentlemen-scribe/5187530.article

Detective Constable Peter Grant and the Special Assessment Unit, led by DCI Thomas Nightingale, dive in this perplexity. The enigma spans London’s history, foreign realms, and the fearsome North. Amidst it, Peter races, as his partner Beverley awaits twins. Little does he know, an unforeseen encounter is imminent… Peter Grant Graphic Novels Overview With this one, it’s very much a case of “it’s not you, it’s me”. As I’ve stated, I’m not a graphic novel fan. Although this was a nice addition to the Peter Grant storyline, it didn’t do much for me. There was no point where my feelings reached the high they do when I am reading one of the novels. It was okay, but it was not enough to blow my mind – making it a rounded down two-point-five-star rating. A stunning box set edition of the bestselling graphic novels in the Rivers of London series, starring Ben Aaronovitch’s laconic trainee wizard and budding detective, Peter Grant. Khaleeli, Homa and Weale, Sally (16 June 2015). "Michelle Obama tells London schoolgirls 'the world needs you' ". The Guardian. Now don't get me wrong, I'm sure that many people will absolutely adore this book, and it is a part of a series, and many of my friends love it, but regrettably for me, well it is sheer zaniness and insanity.Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Nightingale; head of the Folly and the last officially sanctioned English Wizard. Meet Peter Grant, an aspiring officer in London’s Metropolitan Police, eager to become a detective. But fate veers him off-course into the Case Progression Unit, a quiet division. Body Work – Starting with a car on a killing spree, with no driver, Peter investigates a Bosnian refugee and a seemingly-harmless wooden bench with the darkest of paths... [11]

Water Weed (graphic novel) – When two of the less well-behaved River goddesses, Chelsea and Olympia, decide to earn a few quid on the side, Peter Grant and Bev find themselves drawn into a sordid cannabis-smuggling operation, controlled by London’s new queenpin of crime – the brutal and beautiful Hoodette! Chelsea and Olympia have always been pretty much fun-loving and irresponsible, and they start out that way, but seem to have gained a little bit of responsibility by the end of this story.

In addition to the ongoing case connecting the four issues collected in this volume we get another well-appreciated look into the past of Thomas Nightingale, even showing him as a child; this is, in my opinion, actually the most interesting part of the whole book. (I think Molly might be a bit frustrated if he does turn out to be gay, after all.)

In the company of Beverley Brook, his journey unfolds westward, immersing him in a labyrinthine enigma. Local law enforcement and ancient deities converge, testing his resolve. As if these challenges weren’t enough, the quaint village harbors the eccentricity of early shop closures. Winter's Gifts is a novella set after Lies Sleeping, [10] published in June 2023. It follows FBI Agent Kimberley Reynolds, introduced in Whispers Underground, who has subsequently become an ally of the Folly.

Frank Caffrey; LFB ( London Fire Brigade) Fire Investigator, ex- para and a key "associate" of the Folly. Whispers Under Ground – It begins with a dead body at the far end of Baker Street tube station, all that remains of American exchange student James Gallagher. With Inspector Nightingale tied up in the hunt for the rogue magician known as “the Faceless Man,” it’s up to Peter Grant to plumb the haunted depths of the oldest, largest, and deadliest subway system in the world. Illustrations from a mysterious book of fairy tales drawn in the late 1800s are coming to life in the 21st Century and causing havoc. The illustrations were originally painted by a Victorian artist called Jeter Day who disappeared one night in an enchanted forest when he was spirited away by tree nymphs never to be seen again… Moon Over Soho– Apprentice wizard and London Police Constable Peter Grant’s focus is captured by an oddity: a song. While investigating the dead body oof jazz drummer/accountant Cyrus Wilkinson on-stage at Soho’s 606 Club, Peter and pathologist Dr. Abdul Haqq Walid detect the ghostly notes of an old jazz standard resonating from the body. This eerie sign hints at a hidden truth. Night Witch– Peter works a string of brutal murders linked to a Russian witch who is seeking revenge for past crimes. It is between Foxglove Summerand The Hanging Tree.

It's a nice storytelling idea and rewards re-reads. Random little asides and what had seemed to be artistic non sequiturs that make sense in context of what we find out later on as we integrate them into a fuller picture. And, of course, I'm always keen to find out more about Nightingale's past. I've seen graphic novel adaptations of prose novels in the past but I can't think of another example of an author telling a new story in comic book form from the world of his novels. But that's what we get here. Something dark and slimy is dripping through the walls of suburban London. Not the usual stuff that smells funny and can be hell on the lungs, this mould is possessed by some dark power full of bad intentions. Another case for Police Constable Peter Grant, and his reluctant partner, Sahra Guleed! Beneath the façade of the SCC, Terrence Skinner holds a hidden treasure—a technology bridging Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage’s era to the future of artificial intelligence. This secret isn’t just technological but also holds a magical essence fraught with peril. As I said, it can easily be read as a standalone, although - it goes without saying - that knowing the characters and the context would certainly have made reading it very different.False Value By Ben Aaronovitch. Gollancz. 21 May 2019. ISBN 9781473207882 . Retrieved 23 September 2019. The mystery component is very tenuous, since the detectives are busy with another case and the mystery is easy to guess. After all, I repeat, I think it is a way to give the twins something to do, and they throw themselves into this adventure. False Value – Peter Grant is facing fatherhood, and an uncertain future, with equal amounts of panic and enthusiasm. Rather than sit around, he takes a job with émigré Silicon Valley tech genius Terrence Skinner’s brand new London start-up – the Serious Cybernetics Company. Drawn into the orbit of Old Street’s famous “silicon roundabout”, Peter must learn how to blend in with people who are both civilians and geekier than he is.
