So many of this whiskey’s outward characteristics emphasize its deceptive modesty. It’s a five year old, and the bottle sports a retro 1970s label and an ordinary metal screw-top. Inside, however, it is 40% malt whiskey, an unusually high proportion for a blended scotch, but a high malt proportion is a hallmark of most of the artisanal blends I’m acquainted with. The malts come from the Lowlands, Speyside and Islay, with the grain side coming from Invergordon. The Scotch is bottled at 40% abv. With Water: A sparse few drops of water have little to no apparent effect on the aroma. The palate seems more spirity (like vodka). Skip water here. They have been quite successful in their endeavours to create high quality Whisky, and have been met with accolades from top critics.

There's actually quite a bit of malt on the nose. Mostly fruit (orange and grape), also vanilla, a bit of oak, and a touch of sulphur smoke. It's not exactly the cleanest nose in the world but it has a certain charm and surprising complexity when you really analyze it. The nose is scrumptious with juicy malt, light honey and freshly cut grass. Quite floral, perhaps a little too much. Golden Grahams, very biscuity. Milk chocolate. Butter. Water brings out more cereal notes. There is a delicacy here that I wasn't expecting from something with a name like this!
