About this deal

Since we first were informed of the death of Reece, each step we have taken as a family has been about him, about his memory and about getting justice for him and about preserving the wonderful memories we all share. Interior fittings: Lennon's association with the house is visible in features such as the book shelves erected in the lounge by his aunt to encourage his studying and dissuade his musical aspirations, and the porch enclosed to muffle the sound of the musicians rehearsing The piano - Visitors are invited to play a tune on the piano during the tour, and some famous faces have taken up this offer, including Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry and Judy Collins.

The blue plaque - You'll see the famous plaque on the front of Mendips, but you won't find one at 20 Forthlin Road. Why? Mendips custodian Colin Hall explains: "English Heritage only award blue plaques when the subject reaches 100 years old, or has been dead for 20 years. So we're grateful that Paul's house doesn't have one yet, and we wish John's house didn't." PLAN: Typical inter-war layout of a wide hallway with front and rear reception room and rear kitchen to the ground floor, and a morning room to the rear left. Mendips has three bedrooms and a separate toilet and bathroom to the first floor. The cover of Menlove Ave featured illustrations of Lennon by Andy Warhol, created just months before Lennon’s death. Lennon admired Warhol’s methods, noting wryly: “Andy’s way is rather nice. He doesn’t do anything – just signs it.”

During Mimi Smith's ownership of the house she rented one of the bedrooms out to a series of lodgers; always male students (she believed them to be tidier than female students) and usually studying veterinary science, as she had pets. The house's dining room was used as a study room by the students and was not allowed to be used by John Lennon. In 1962 the last of the students moved out and Lennon married Cynthia Powell; the two sleeping in the dining room of Mendips. Their son, Julian Lennon was born the following year, and Mimi Smith used her former bedroom as a lounge and slept in the rear bedroom (formerly rented out to the lodgers). In 1965 Mimi Smith sold the house and took the furnishings with her, giving away those she didn't want. The commemorative plaque - 20 Forthlin Road may not be eligible for an English Heritage plaque, but when the house was turned over to the National Trust, Paul asked for just one thing to be included; something to remember his parents by. The simple wooden plaque above the front door reads: "In loving memory of Mum and Dad, Mary and Jim". Released in 1986, Menlove Ave is a collection of outtakes from the early 1970s recorded by John Lennon. The Reader at Calderstones is home to the Mansion House, the Storybarn, the Ice Cream Parlour, the Reader Café and the Calderstones Story exhibition. Arriving by car?
