Our kids spotted the pedalos as soon as they arrived and started debating which one they wanted to go on, for the girls in our group the pink flamingo won. After initially fighting over who was to drive, they gave up after a time and didn’t ask to go on again. A one off activity for us. Illustrating this event are a statue of Marshal Foch, commemorative monuments and a museum containing the railway carriage in which the Armistice was signed. Bumper Boats, trampoline, mini-golf, Kids go Kart, Bouncy Castle, Pikachu Ride, trampoline elastic, Ejector, 9D Cinema Virtuel. Would you like to combine a trip to Disneyland Paris with a luxury camping holiday with the whole family? If so, take a look at camping La Croix du Vieux Pont. This camping is located close to Paris, on the Aisne river with a fantastic pool complex with long slides, a swimming lagoon and mobile homes on grassy pitches. There's plenty to do for young and old alike, and a trip to the city of Paris or Disneyland Paris is the icing on the cake. The amusement park is just over an hour away from this camping. Relax in our deluxe mobile homes after a day at the amusement park, city or on the camping itself. Swimming for all ages The indoor pool is open from April until the end of October, with a retractable roof. It suggests its heated but I’d beg to differ, it was really quite cold in August. It could also do with a refurbishment. Avoid the changing areas and just get changed at home.

Next, we ambled down the Seine, ending up at our final tourist destination of the day: The Eiffel Tower. We rode the elevator right up to the top, which the children thought was extremely cool.

Signs of the Times

Cheaper and less busy than Disneyland Paris. You can get to Parc Asterix in 1hr from La Croix Du Vieux Pont. Over May half term our family spent a week at Camping La Croix Du Vieux Pont, staying in a Eurocamp Azure mobile home. Camping La Croix Du Vieux Pont is situated 1 hour from Disneyland Paris, 1.5 hours from Paris city centre, and an easy 2.5 hour drive from Calais. The journey from London to La Croix Du Vieux Pont was simple, and around the same length of time as it takes us to drive to Cornwall– making us think, why don’t we come to France more often?

Château de Pierrefonds is only a 20 minute drive from La Croix Du Vieux Pont and is a stunning Château in an equally stunning village. We took two ponies out one afternoon – Sam and I held the ponies, and the children took turns riding as we walked round the nearby roads and woodland areas. It was pretty funny, because as it turns out, handling two strong-willed ponies plus three young children is a bit of a juggle! (Watch our video of our week at Camping La Croix Du Vieux Pont to see what I mean). Our Azure mobile home slept six within two twin rooms and one double bedroom. Knowing that a mobile home mattress would be more towards the basic than the luxury end of the scale, I wasn’t expecting amazing things, but our mattresses were a lot softer and comfier than I’d anticipated – I’m not a fan of a hard mattress! You get great service from Didier and his mother is the chef. The rest of the family work there too, a real family affair. 15. Golf If you don’t have your own car, or you simply don’t fancy driving yourself, Eurocamp put on coaches to Paris and Disneyland Paris, leaving at 8am and returning around 9pm.

Rental : 7€ per hour ( they lend you the equipment if you haven’t taken your own and you make your booking at the reception desk). 5. Table Tennis La Croix Du Vieux Pont has various different accommodation sections, we were staying in the Ancient Gardens. We found this location perfect, as it was a short walk to the swimming pools and main complex (but not too close to be noisy), and the pitches were a great size and set up. There were also loads of outdoor activities at Camping La Croix Du Vieux Pont – archery, a climbing wall, pedalos, trampolines, go karts, mini golf, and a bouncy castle. (You do have to pay extra for these, though).

From the pews to the tweets

Our children had never ridden horses before, and it was something I used to love about our holidays in France, so I was really keen to try this particular activity with them. It's location makes camping La Croix du Vieux Pont ideal for a holiday in early, peak or late season. Disneyland Paris and the romantic city of Paris are just a short distance away from the camping. Just think how delighted your children will be when you take them to the amusement park for a day or two. You will find there is plenty to keep you amused here for a few days. A bus runs from the camping to the amusement park a few times a week (the bus only runs when there is sufficient interest). The small town of Vic-sur-Aisne, about 1.5 km from the camping, is also certainly worth a visit. Among other places, you can visit the solemn French First World War Cemetery. Or, visit the historic town of Compiègne, with its 15th century castle and a First World War museum. And then you have the day time kids clubs run by Eurocamp. The activities were varied and you could dip in and out whenever you wanted to, no need to pre-book anything. Eurocamp also organise family sports sessions such as football and rounders, which were a highlight for our children, and also a great way to meet other holiday makers.

The Folkestone to Calais Eurotunnel crossing provided a welcome break in the middle of our journey, as the children were able to get out of their seats, visit the on board toilets, and just generally wander around for 30 minutes. I had this misconception that I’d be arriving at a French version of Butlins, and in some respects, it could be a little like that at times. However I, and my family, still really enjoyed it and it didn’t really bother us that much.

We felt that the Camping La Croix Du Vieux Pont parc was a very social and safe space for the kids. At 8, 6, and 3 years old, we didn’t let them out of our line of sight, but even just on the path in front of our mobile home, there was never a shortage of children to play with from the mobile homes in our row of pitches. Getting to Paris from La Croix Du Vieux Pont can be done in a number of ways and will form the subject of a full blog post at some point, as will the Paris Metro itself. It is however possible in around 1hr 30 minutes and is well worth doing.
