About this deal

Then you get other trainers which change significantly with each update. The Nimbus is an example of the latter. The trend of the Nimbus over the past 3 years is that it receives massive updates and gets substantially better upgrades every year. When it comes to stability, even though the Nimbus 23 is a neutral trainer, I found it to be decently stable due to its midsole which flares outwards and creates a wide base. The new Nimbus 24 is now one of the lightest, bounciest max-cushioned trainers on the market and it’s definitely worth upgrading to the Nimbus 24, even if you have the Nimbus 23. With the GEL-NIMBUS™, you will reach the end of your run and want to keep on going. The upper is extremely secure, with a 360º fluid skin and strategic overlays. We have also incorporated recycled materials into the Jacquard mesh to reduce the environmental impact of these shoes.

Personally, I found it incredibly easy to put the shoe on and get a good fit, and it’s a huge bonus for me. The Nimbus 24 provides an enjoyable and reasonably bouncy ride for daily training, yet it falls in between what I look for in a trainer: not comfortable enough to use on recovery days and not versatile enough to be a good workout or even tempo shoe.I never had to worry about slowing down when turning corners and I never had to concentrate on striking on the forefoot or rearfoot. It’s still a dual foam setup with Flytefoam (which is EVA) being the main component. In the rearfoot, on top of the Flytefoam is Flytefoam Propel which is an EVA-TPU blend.

The wide-fitting upper is made from an engineered mesh with a gusseted tongue that has a nice stretch and drops nicely into place. Together with good padding in the heel and flat laces, it all combines to make it a very comfortable shoe to slip on. You’re also getting a pretty roomy toe box and it felt like a good fit for us in our UK size 8. It’s not the softest ride of any max cushioned trainer by any means: the Clifton 7 is still softer but the Clifton has a more uniform softness throughout its entire midsole. The Flytefoam in the midsole of the Nimbus 23 definitely feels less dense and more lively than in any previous version: it’s now closer to the bouncy, energetic Flytefoam Blast foam used in the Novablast. I did take them out on a 40km run but by the halfway mark, I felt some foot fatigue due to the softness of the midsole.

When I put the shoes on for the first time, they felt luxurious and comfortable. The fit was perfect and they fit me like a glove: definitely true to size. In the midsole there are two layers of Asics’s new Flytefoam Blast+ (FF Blast+) foam, which is a softer and springier version of the material used in the Novablast line of shoes. The top layer of the foam is firmer than the bottom, which combines with a plastic Trusstic plate in the midfoot to ensure the ride of the shoe is stable despite the introduction of the new soft foam. The women’s version of the shoe has a softer top layer of FF Blast+ and the plastic plate is a different shape tailored to women’s feet. Consistent ride is one of the most important shoe aspects for me. From my experience, the shoe's flexibility is one of the biggest contributing factors.
