About this deal

Most plumbing pipe holes are covered by a decorative escutcheon or hidden by a fixture base, so a precise round hole isn’t necessary. Use the technique shown here to make rough, round holes. The primary purpose of this type of tile cutting tool is to make straight cuts; you cannot use it for miter or bevel cuts. While it can be used on a variety of tile types, it is best suited to cutting ceramic tiles. While the handle is ergonomically designed and large enough to reduce strain, keep in mind that you still need to exert your own muscle power to use the tool. Still, this is a great choice if you don't need to cut a lot of tiles, or you need to cut large tiles. Using a hole saw is relatively straightforward, but does require a bit of technique and physical strength.

Step 5 – Break Score Line: Place the tile over the edge of a work bench so the scored line is (facing upwards) directly above the edge of the surface or, as we’ve done here, place a pencil directly under the score line. Using the heel of you palm or a piece of wood or similar, gently tap down on the over hang until it breaks off A wet saw can really only be used outdoors due to the amount of dust and water that gets sprayed everywhere. On the other hand, a tile cutter can be used indoors without making a massive mess. Manual snap tile cutters, like rail cutters, have a wheel to score the tile and then rails that apply pressure to snap the tile along the scored line. This type of tile cutting tool is less intimidating for beginners to use but requires more physical exertion and can result in rough cuts that must be sanded. You can only make straight cuts with a rail cutter. The tile saw is mainly used for cutting shapes in tiles rather than straight lines as it’s extremely hard to cut a straight line with such as tool, the methods above often give much better results. You may find that with some of the cheaper ones that you need to go over the tile with the cutter 2 – 3 times to make sure that you have completely scored the glaze so the unwanted section will break off easily. These sawsare available in multiple diameters, ranging from 3/4 inch to 2 inches, and are sold individually or in sets. Controlling the Heat

Grinders, Dremels, and drillsmay generate dust, sparks, and flying debris, which may cause severe eye damage. Face and eye protectionmay protect you from eyeinjuries and ensure clear vision as you work. Protect Your HearingLike the manual cutter they feature a flat bed for the tile to sit on but instead of a cutting wheel there is a blade driven by an electric motor, this produces a much cleaner and straighter cut. Before any cutting can take place the shape that needs to be created first needs to be transferred on to the tile. Hand tools and power tools usually have rotating or sharp components. Safety gloves will protect your hands from cuts, punctures, and abrasions when you’re using these tools. Safety shoes featuring toe caps will shield your toes from accidental crushing, heavy objects, and impacts during your project. Protect Your Knees Wear earmuffs or earplugs when cutting a circle in tile.Power tools produce loud sounds that may cause hearing damage or loss, but ear protection reduces this noise. Protect Your Breathing If possible, get one with an adjustable guide as you can then ensure that your tile stays straight while cutting it. You will also then get a nice crisp line.

The template is exactly as you may imagine it, it’s basically a cardboard cut out of the shape you want to create that is then marked on on the tile so that you can then cut around it.Tile saws are very straight forward to use, simply place the tile with the area to be cut overhanging the edge of a works surface, start the cut slowly and then simply take your time to cut around the markings.

Step 4 – Score Tile: Gently push the tip of the scribe down into the tile glaze and at the same time, draw it along the line, keeping it tight to the straight edge. Ensure the glaze is scored through for the full length of the tile as if not it won’t break along the line Likewise, when using electric or powered tile cutters, as the blade is rotating very fast, this can throw tiny shards of tile all over the place so goggles are also essential no matter how you’re cutting your tiles. How to Cut Tiles Using a Tile Scribe A Dremel, also called a rotary tool, can be used to cut through tiles of any material. The best thing about dremels are their small size, which allows for more precise cuts than a grinder. There are numerous different tools that can be used to cut ceramic tiles and these include the hand held tile scribe, the manual or contractors tile cutter, the electric tile cutter, tile saw and also hand-held tile nips. Position the saw at a 45-degree angle with the tile. Only one of the saw’s edges should be touching the tile when you start cutting the hole.Electric Tile Cutter: The electric tile cutter is a step up yet again. Featuring an electric motor that powers a special circular tile cutting saw blade, once marked, the tile is gently pushed into the cutting wheel where it then creates a clean and accurate cut. Most also feature a water reservoir that keeps the blade wet, ensuring the cut is as clean and smooth as possible Mark where your hole will go on your tile, and clamp or tape the tile to your work surface. This will keep the tile from slipping when you’re cutting. If you’re a DIY kind of person and you are planning to do your own floors, then one of the things that you’re going to need to decide is what kind of material that you want your floor to be made out of. One of the most popular and most durable materials out there, not to mention one of the best looking, is tile. Tile cutting tools include both manual and electric options. Manual options cost much less, but require a fair amount of exertion, and so are best for small jobs only. Electric tile-cutting tools can handle large jobs, but are of course much more expensive. There are a few different types of both manual and electric options.
