About this deal

It dawns on me then that none of my words mattered. Not a single one of them. No one listened, and no one cared. As the realisation hits me, I watch the woman get up and walk to the door. She speaks as she moves, “Unfortunately, based on my assessment—” The multiplied wonders of God’s choosing a people include the unfathomable fact that God sent his Son into the world to cancel all the debts of his chosen ones — to nullify every damning accusation against them, and to give them a righteous standing in the court of heaven. I think my answer to this question is going to be much shorter than its predecessor. I was not bored, because I was captivated.

Are there any authors in the fantasy or sci-fi space right now that you’d like to highlight as deserving of more attention? Chosen ones rarely fit in, instead, they often stand out in crowds. People usually pay specific attention to the chosen whenever they are in public environments. Oftentimes, other people don’t understand why they are attracted to the chosen ones. They just know that something is different about these individuals. I grew up on chosen one stories. I was making a list the other day and realized just how many I was exposed to when I was young—mostly young men chosen one stories like Dune and Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. So I love these stories and I had also written one in Divergent. And with Divergent, people always ask me, “Well, what would have happened if the ending hadn’t been what it was?” I don’t have an answer to that question because, to me, the ending is what it is and that’s the only option I can see. But more generally, it got me curious about what would happen after the end of the story — not just plotwise, but psychologically. How do you cope with the emotional aftermath of having achieved this goal? And not just taking down a dark lord and being the triumphant hero of the day, but also, killing someone and being famous for it. That’s a complicated thing. So… What happens after the happy ending? After the heroes save the world and everyone is at peace? Find out in Chosen Ones, which is Veronica Roth’s first novel aimed at an adult audience. Building on themes found in her previous young adult works such as the Divergent series, Roth looks at the classic good versus evil and dark versus light trope with a whole new perspective. On the tenth anniversary of the Dark One’s defeat, something unthinkable happens: one of the Chosen Ones dies. When the others gather for the funeral, they discover the Dark One’s ultimate goal was much bigger than they, the government, or even prophecy could have foretold—bigger than the world itself.

Other irritating thing was at most part of the books characters acted, talked and behaved like teenagers but this was normal because their teenage years have been stolen and they carried a huge burden and responsibility on their shoulders which prevented them growing up like their peers have done. The ending does make me want to know what happens next, but I don’t know if I can sit through another slow novel of this size. I may need someone to spoil the sequel for me.

Chosen Ones is an addictive tale of magic and power, “What ifs?” and inescapable trauma. Fans of previous Veronica Roth books will recognize and soak up her impeccable world-building, bleeding heart protagonists, and dauntless (ha!) villains. You may feel weak sometimes but are much stronger than the average human. During the struggles and the tough times, your spiritual growth snowballs. The Covert Hater – They seem friendly and don’t usually hate you to your face, but their heart belongs to their father, the devil. Remember, not everyone is out to get you, and people are imperfect. Be sensible with your projections and protect your energy at all costs. For me, it was a real struggle to push through. I genuinely only made myself finish this book because it is the third book I've read in the last six months that is a popular YA author's adult debut - the others being Ninth House and House of Earth and Blood, respectively - and I DNFed the first two. I figured conspiracy theorists might think I was a book-hating bot working for the dark side if I DNFed yet another. And if you're thinking after three books, maybe it's YOU, then don't worry, I have already had that thought myself.

The more we consider being chosen, the more the wonder of it grows. And Paul tells us to consider it. The reason he wants us to think about being chosen (Do you? — With joy?) is that it will make us humble. Here’s the passage that makes this point. He starts by telling us to consider our “calling,” because this calling — from death to life — is the way we actually experience in time the choice he made in eternity. Then he mentions three times our being chosen. We enjoyed Chosen Ones so much that we want to spread the love to you, our readers! From now until Tuesday, April 14, enter below for your chance to win your very own copy. How can he know this? And how can they? Paul explains, “We know . . . because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. . . . You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 1:4–6). It’s like any other part of the book that requires research except it’s a little harder to know how to do that kind of research. You can’t just rely on people you know because there are greater issues at play in your own perspective and in the world generally that you need to become aware of. What they are feeling is called a frequency shift. With this positive shift, their perceptions may change. They might suddenly feel the urge to quit some bad habits, call someone they haven’t spoken to in a while, and may even start a spiritual practice.
