About this deal

The book also introduced our next couple and all I can say is WOWZER!!! This next book is going to be an entertaining ride. Maybe even more so then The Chase - all I can say is enemy to lovers!!! The one that lingers in your mind for hours, even days, after it's over. The one that has you randomly touching your lips and breaking out in a warm, fluttery shiver as you remember the feel of his mouth on you. Okay, now the hard part. I think I am going to be in a minority here when I say that I struggled a bit with this. Summer came off the first three quarters of the book as so immature. I actually understood her motives. She felt so attracted to Fitz but his actions led her to believe he didn’t have feelings for her. Hunter made it clear he did. She wanted that for herself. To be wanted. With that being said, though, she still should not have let herself consider Hunter when she knew her heart wanted Fitz. The other thing I didn't like was how the only queer character in the whole book was treated. I won't go into details but basically, this character was outed in the worst way possible. It left such a bad taste in my mouth because this character was just there to serve as a device for the final conflict in the book.

But then the last twenty five percent of the book my opinion greatly improved. During this part of the book, Summer finally really showed her moxy, both at school and at home. I really enjoyed the way things played out between she and Fitz. What I really enjoyed was Summer’s influence on Fitz. I loved the way she drew him out, even really without him realizing it was happening. i loved a lot about this book, mostly the personalities and the discussions that were brought up. there's a talk about rape culture, misogyny, and abuse of power. and judging people for their outer appearance. we stan. The Chase set the stage for an amazing new series from one of my favorite authors and I already can't wait for more. If you're a fan of sizzling New Adult romance, this is a book that's not to be missed! Prosecutor: The smell of books, fluffy dreams and chocolate flavoured hopes for happily ever afters. The Risk was still... not as good as I hoped. It's not about the main relationship, which was pretty solid (not the Greatest but also way nicer than how Summer and Fitzy ended up). Summer struggles as a student. She has a learning disability. So she also struggles with self confidence as a result. Because of the reason she had to leave Brown, Summer is forced to endure weekly meetings with an academic advisor that clearly can’t stand her. Add on to that a professor that makes her very uncomfortable, and this semester is sure to be epic. Overall Pace of Story: It starts out slow and is on the longer side. I think it could've easily been edited down (especially at the beginning), but I never felt the need to skim.

Me: To be honest, me neither. I enjoyed The Chase, hell, I devoured it, but I was left a bit unsatisfied. It was Hunter's involvement, and the fact that Summer did seem like an airhead most of the times -

I am bummed to only be giving this book 3 stars. While I was reading the first book in Elle Kennedy's spinoff series, I was just dying to read Brenna and Jake's book. So, I eagerly awaited the release of The Risk. While I enjoyed the book overall, it wasn't exactly the hit that I was hoping for. Prosecutor: THEN WHY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH DID YOU GIVE IT THREE STARS? WEREN'T YOU TAUGHT MATH AT SCHOOL? The Chase is the first book from Kennedy's new Briar U series. If the name of the series sounds familiar to you, it should since it's the spin off of her popular and widely loved Off-Campus series. This book is Summer and Fitzy's story. Summer is Dean's sister. We met her previously in Dean's book. Summer is a whirlwind of Prada and Chanel No.5. She is my favorite part of this book. Fitzy was Dean's teammate and we met him briefly in The Goal. Brenna is a fun character and has a lot of heart. I loved seeing her overcome sexism in the sports field and work through her past mistakes as well as the relationship with her dad. Jake was the perfect mix of the sexy athlete and the college sweetheart. I adored him. There was something towards the end that kept this from being a 5 star for me, but it wasn't anything too awful. I just felt it was unnecessary. Still, it didn't take my love away from this book. OW/OM drama: Yes The H's childhood best friend is in love with him and hasn't told him. She causes some drama for the couple.

However, there are two things that dragged down the rating for me. One was about Taylor's weight. The other one is a spoiler so I'm save that for last. Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story. The chemistry between these two... off the charts. This is some of the hottest stuff Elle Kennedy has written. I always love a good enemies to lovers sex scene. There is just something more passionate and forbidden that takes it up a notch. I loved Brenna and Jake together so much.

The Play Briar U, Book 3 Get ready for another binge-worthy romance from New York Timesbestselling author Elle Kennedy!

As much as I loved Fitzy, there were moments I wanted to throttle him. He really irked me, especially the first half or so of the book. I hated how he made it seem like everything about Summer was drama, when that wasn't the case. I was so freaking happy when he started to truly see her for the woman she was, I just wish it wouldn't have taken him so long! Except three months into our friendship, Demi is single and looking for a rebound. And she's making a play for me.

As Brenna & Jake spend more time together it's becoming difficult to resist him. Harvard is Briar's biggest rival, and her father and friends would freak out if they knew they were sneaking around together. She couldn't fall for a player on their rival team, but fate was cruel because soon he's all she thinks about. He makes her feel too vulnerable, and when he touches her, her will power dissolves completely. He's absolutely irresistible! Their chemistry is undeniable, but it's the emotional connection that surprises them both. There's definitely something between them, and Jake wants to see where it goes. It's official, he wants Brenna to be his. Slowly Fitzy see's another side of Summer emerge as they spend more time together he realises his first assumptions about her were wrong. In the end they come together as two friends helping the other out, he wants to draw her into a character based on a video programme he's designing and in turn he helps get her thoughts on paper for her thesis. Maybe Connor’s only voicing out his preferences, but his wording is . . . questionable. First off, I’m offended. Not sure about soft and squeezable, but I’m far from curvy. Are you saying that makes me less of a woman? Man, think again.
