Inoue is also the mangaka (manga creator) behind the epic ongoing series, Vagabond (Viz Media), based on Japan's most revered and influential samurai warrior, Miyamoto Musashi. What is there left unsaid about Vagabond? It is a literary masterpiece, up there on the top with the best of the best. It is an experience that is unparalleled by most manga I have read before. I put Vagabond with Lone Wolf and Cub as the best manga I have ever read. As always, Musashi moves on to the next adventure, reunited with his first and only apprentice Jōtarō. Seeing these two together again brings so much joy as well as humorous in terms of the banter towards each other. Not so much a relationship between a master and his young student, but more like two brothers squabbling with each other. As Musashi and Jōtarō try to break into the Yagyū Shinkage Ryū school of swordsmanship, we get to see what other recurring characters are doing at the moment, such as Otsū, who still lives with the founder of said school, Yagyū Sekishūsai Muneyoshi, who hears the news of his beloved grandson returning home.Pine, Jarred (March 4, 2005). "Vagabond Vol. #01". AnimeOnDVD. Archived from the original on April 18, 2008 . Retrieved August 9, 2023. This is a historic fiction, so the history SHOULD be prominent but it isn't very. And the time they do use the history it is so heavy exposition that I barely retain any of it. Another truly admirable volume, Inoue knows how to create an indulging beautiful story. I loved the sequence of Shinnosuke, his past was saddening but I enjoyed seeing the outcome unfold. I love Musashi so much, he's such a great character and although his growth has exceeded his past, there's is still so long to go and I'm strapped in for the ride ! I love Mususahi's story. After a 4 years timeskip, Musashi's arrival to Kyōto, his fight against the Yoshioka swords. Musashi takes several students but the area catches on fire, leading to the fight being postponed. Musashi is rescued by Matahachi and treated by Takuan. Musashi decides to continue his training with a young boy, Jōtarō, wanting him to teach him. In Musashi and Jōtarō's arrival to the Hōzōin spears, Musashi's first fight against the Hōzōin, its aftermath, Musashi's second fight against Hōzōin Inshun. Inshun's superiority causes Musashi to escape driven by fear but trains a for a rematch where he briefly overpowers his rival. Its aftermath, Otsū's situation with the Yagyū, while Matahachi becomes famous while stealing the name of a famous samurai known as Kojirō Sasaki. Musashi and Jōtarō's arrive to the Yagyū swords, the events while deliberating how to enter the Yagyū headquarters, Musashi's meeting with the 4 seniors, his solo fight against the Yagyū men, his encounter with Sekishūsai Yagyū and their talk, the fight's aftermath. Musashi's training, Matahachi and his family's troubles, the events directly leading to Musashi's fight against Baiken Shishido. Kogod, Theo (December 13, 2019).
