About this deal

I used my love of crime books and tv shows to try and guess who the killer was but it didn’t hit me until like chapter eighty / eighty five. Chris never fails to come up with the absolute worst ways for his characters to die and, it sounds awful to say, but it does make for one hell of an enjoyable read. You find yourself squirming at the scenes but not being able to stop reading. I started Chris's books with One By One which was pretty horrific (and not entirely original) but it seems his earlier work is where he was his most gruesome. As for the main character Robert Hunter, I like him and he is probably now one of my favourite fictional detectives however he is portrayed as some kind of genius, a child prodigy whose university thesis is mandatory reading for FBI trainees. It usually annoys me having a perfect detective who can solve every crime however it doesn't here because I feel that Hunter is actually quite a realistic and believable character despite this 'perfectness'.

Before I wanted to study animal care I liked the idea of being a Homicide detective or CSI, now I’m glad I’m not because I have nothing but respect for the men and women that have that profession. No therapist in the world could help with the horrors they must see and they have more courage and guts than most. When his inquiry collides with a missing persons’ case being investigated by the attractive, razor-sharp Whitney Meyers, Hunter suspects the killer might be keeping several women hostage. Soon Robert finds himself on the hunt for a murderer who is much more monstrous than he ever could have expected; a predator whose past hides a terrible secret, and who won’t stop until each of his victims has brought forth the awful truth that lies hidden deep inside them too.

A Man Alone

I don’t want to give anything away as I may give some of the spoilers away and I don’t want to as it’s a book that you should read knowing nothing about it. There are ⚠️trigger warnings ⚠️but it’s mostly triggers that are spoken of, some actually happen and that’s murder, abuse (at least makes you think at first), self harm, kidnap, physiological damage of a child and body mutilation. If anybody has been in a situation like any of the events in this book then it may not be for you.

I am glad that I gave this novel a try. It did provide me some entertainment and look forward to reading some more books by the author. In this book we have victims who kind of die by their own hands. It is so unique and different and again so well explained. They are all entertainers and they all look alike. Hunter is of course on the hunt for the perpetrator and the way to catch him is to understand him and the reasoning behind the crimes. The show had a lot going for it and most of it was Darren McGavin. The writing was often brilliant, but McGavin carried the weight. Here’s where Kolchak differs most strikingly from any of the several shows it spawned. Buffy has Xander, Willow and Giles as well as a host of others to support her. Skully has Mulder. Supernatural has that one guy and his brother (can you tell I’m not into that show?). Agent Dunham has Peter, Walter and Astrid. This allows for better dialogue, more characters to care about, greater risk, more emotion and so on. Kolchak had his editor, Vincenzo, and the office jerk Updyke. But they seldom showed any depth or involvement in the supernatural side of Kolchak’s life. Actors Act

The mysterious caller however doesn't want Hunter to just watch, but rather participate in an act where refusing is not an option. A wiki walk can be as refreshing to the mind as a walk through nature in this completely overrated real life outside books: An unidentifiable body - it’s mouth carefully stitched shut - is discovered laid out on a slab in an abandoned butcher’s shop. When the full autopsy gets underway at the Los Angeles County morgue the true horror of the situation is revealed - a discovery so devastating that Detective Robert Hunter of the Los Angeles Homicide Special Section has to be pulled off a different case to take over the investigation. Soon Hunter finds himself on the hunt for a murder with a warped obsession, a stalker for whom love becomes hate. Commander Barbara Blake is brought in to help with the case when they dig further into the identity of the girls they find that all of them are artists of some sort, another body is found but the calling card has changed then Commander Blake disappears this time Hunter will stop at nothing until he finds her what happens from here on is a cat & mouse game between the perp & Hunter. Prieš tai skaitytos dvi knygos apie Robertą Hanterį man tikrai labai patiko. Todėl neabejojau, jog patiks ir ši. Ir tikrai! Ryškūs personažai, žiaurūs nusikaltimai bei įtraukiantis policijos darbas. Viskas - ko reikia geram detektyvui.

Within days a new body surfaces. Like the previous victim, she’s also been stitched shut and something has been left inside her. Something as ingenious as it is grotesque. And the killer isn’t done yet, not by a long shot. I personally have no problem with the monster of the week format. After all, hey, it’s a monster. Every week! I’m easy to please on that score. But unlike the other paranormal shows I’ve mentioned, Kolchak had no larger arc or even a timeline. It’s purely episodic television, and I think that was a mistake. A monster every week inside a larger plot structure simply works better. But when his inquiry collides with a missing persons' case being investigated by the razor-sharp Whitney Meyers, Hunter suspects the killer might be keeping several women hostage. Soon Robert finds himself on the hunt for a murderer with a warped obsession, a stalker for whom love has become hate. Before it was a TV show, Kolchak: The Night Stalker was a made-for-TV movie with a Richard Matheson script. The night stalker in question isn’t Kolchak; it’s a vampire. This gets confused in the series, as it seems to imply that Kolchak himself is the night stalker. This makes him sound a bit creepy, and he really isn’t at all.Best and the Worst:To my way of thinking, the Matheson TV movie is better than any particular episode of the show it spawned. Matheson did excellent work with vampires, after all. But I’m going to focus on the series itself for the best and worst. Yet those two bad books put a sour taste in my mouth - like two in a row, what has gone wrong with my reading process? It's funny but I could likely put together a list of about 15-20 authors who I really can bank on. So why not simply read everything they have before trying to find someone else? You really have to wonder why I/we don't do that. Blurb: A serial killer stalks Los Angeles in this terrifying thriller from the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Executioner and The Crucifix Killer. I like my psycho-thrillers to have an atmosphere of tension, excitement, fear and if there is terror then I simply love it. The author did try to create a similar atmosphere from the very beginning but I felt that somehow he was unable to maintain it.
