The two Met detectives are sent undercover by the senior aide to the London Mayor to discover how her brother-in-law ended up dead. As they try to gather the evidence they need, they have no idea of the true threat they face – because someone in Jellicoe Close has murder on their mind… The Irish author Jane Casey has written many novels and the most prominent one is the Maeve Kerrigan Series. The first book in the series is titled ‘The Burning’ and was published by Minotaur Books in September of the year 2011. The protagonist of the book in a detective constable named Maeve Karrigan who is an ambitious young woman trying to do good. There is an enigmatic killer in the city who has been given the name The Burning Man by the media. This murderer has killed four women by beating them and then set their bodies on fire. This incident happened near the areas of London’s parks and while the city and the police were trying to make out how did this happen; a fifth murder occurs. Maeve Kerrigan is trying her best to make an impression on the murder task force. The male colleagues in her team think that Maeve is weak because of her empathy, but Maeve thinks differently. According to Maeve if she goes to the grieving family friends of Rebecca Haworth, the latest victim, she can learn about her and that can help her to bring the murderer of Rebecca and the other four women to justice. But the real question that arises now is how to catch someone whose face has not been seen by anyone and when there is no evidence left about the killer? The story of the book has also been narrated by Rebecca’s best friend Louise. Maeve goes very deep into the life of Rebecca and as far as in the university days at Oxford. She is trying to put all the pieces together to find out what might have happened on that winter night that caused her to be burned so violently. The plot written by Irish author Jane Casey is brilliant with all the materials that are required to make a book really good and exciting to read. I loved, loved LOVED The Close. If you haven't read Jane Casey, start immediately - excellent police procedurals with DELICIOUS sexual tension'

Jane Casey, I fell for The Close. Usually, I ain't doin' no Romance. But here, we were dabblin' in it and not necessarily dibblin' in it. And that made all the difference in the world. Jane Casey is writing the most dangerously addictive series in crime fiction and The Close absolutely sizzles with her trademark tension' THE AUTHOR: Jane Casey, a former editor, is married to a criminal barrister who ensures her writing is realistic and as accurate as possible. Born in Dublin, Jane now lives in southwest London with her husband and two children. I've read one book by Jane Casey before - The Killing Kind, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so was excited to see a new offering. The gripping new detective crime thriller featuring Maeve Kerrigan and Josh Derwent from the award-winning and bestselling authorThe Close presented a cast of diverse and compelling characters. Each resident harbored their own shadows and desires, leaving an array of suspects when an unexpected tragedy befalls the community. Casey reveals glimpses of their lives, carefully hinting at the secrets they hold close to their chests, gradually building the tension and keeping the reader hooked until the final revelation. Jane Casey is writing the most dangerously addictive series in crime fiction and The Close absolutely sizzles with her trademark tension." - Erin Kelly There are two kinds of series characters: those who are basically the same in every book and those who are altered by their experiences. Maeve is the second kind, and she’s been through a lot. I think readers just want her to be happy now. How important is it that she is London Irish? Casey excels at showing how a detective's stresses and anxieties are rooted in more than just their work' Linwood Barclay, the no. 1 Sunday Times bestselling author Simmering tensions and suburban darkness combine to make The Close a deliciously bingeable read.’ Ruth Ware, the Sunday Times Top 10 Bestselling Author

I love Jane Casey's writing, and The Close is a real treat for both long-time fans and new readers alike. Completely addictive' The book delves into Maeve's journey of recovery while she works to solve the crimes. The chemistry between Maeve and Josh adds depth to their undercover operation, and their complicated relationship dynamics add an extra layer of intrigue. Casey skillfully constructs the story, weaving together the investigation, personal struggles, and the secrets hidden within Jellicoe Close. ABOUT 'THE CLOSE': At first glance, Jellicoe Close seems to be a perfect suburban street – well-kept houses with pristine lawns, neighbours chatting over garden fences, children playing together. In this book Mauve goes undercover with her boss DI Josh Derwent and moves into a house together in Jellicoe Close to try and uncover the truth. A really interesting book, with some great characters and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Jane Casey’s Maeve Kerrigan books in order:

At one point I was incredulous that all the neighbours responded to a WhatsApp group message at two in the morning and proceeded to assemble outside in the Close. I mean, don't most people put their phone on silent or vibrate at night. I certainly wouldn't hear a notification coming through at that time! Whodunnit” and “will they, won’t they” are two equally enticing questions and, here, readers will have great fun guessing the answer to both’ Daily Mirror But there are dark secrets behind the neat front doors, hidden dangers that include a ruthless criminal who will stop at nothing. I loved, loved, LOVED The Close. If you haven’t read Jane Casey, start immediately – excellent police procedurals with DELICIOUS sexual tension’ Marian Keyes

But one neat front door hides a ruthless criminal – and the new neighbours aren’t what they seem to be either. DS Maeve Kerrigan and DI Josh Derwent are undercover, posing as a couple to investigate a deadly conspiracy. At first glance, Jellicoe Close seems to be a perfect suburban street THE CLOSE with well-kept houses with pristine lawns and neighbors. However, dark secrets lurk below the surface, and a ruthless criminal is on the loose.

I clued into who the unnamed narrator was pretty early, but I appreciate that the author threw in a couple of curveballs near the end that had me second-guessing myself. Which is silly because when am I ever wrong??? (obvious sarcasm) Anyways, Maeve did have her detective dumbass moments – can detectives please stop heading out into heavily wooded areas without cell phones or basic protection?? Tysm.
