About this deal

I’ve already tried to emphasize how masterfully Suburbia’s city-building theme is embodied by its mechanisms. I have to admit, though, that there is one aspect of the game where mechanisms and theme don’t really gel. It’s the Goal tiles, which reward bonus population at the end of the game for players who satisfy certain criteria – such as having the most lakes, or the highest income, or the fewest industrial tiles, etc. Another action that can be taken during your turn is to take a tile from the REM, flip it over, and place it into your borough as a Lake. (Every tile in the game has a Lakeprinted on its reverse side). Suburbia, from Bezier Games, has had a massive facelift in this collectors edition that finally looks as good as it plays. This massive box not only includes the base game but the existing expansions, promo and more. Plastic ‘Game Trayz’ inserts are used to store the game and make set up as easy as possible. The gameplay itself revolves around balancing your income with a growing population. You do this by buying hex shaped buildings and adding them to your growing metropolis. Buildings come in various flavours, such as residential, industrial and so on. You will not only need to place these in intelligent ways but pay attention to their special effects and modifiers to your population and income. Certain types of buildings benefit from being near or far away from other types of buildings and some will activate buildings in other people’s cities!

Finally, I really like the start player token, a little wooden skyscraper. It doesn’t have any function during the game other then to mark who got the first turn, but It’s very thematic and Bezier Games went the extra mile by making it a wood piece instead of a cardboard token. Great job on the components all around. How to Play: The real estate market holds the tiles a player can buy each round. The further left the tile, the more expensive.

Add a new tile to the real estate market: Players slide all tiles to the right to fill the empty space and draw a new tile. This tile is placed to the left of the existing tiles. Once the game is setup, the first thing each player has to do is choose a goal. There will be a number of public goals (based on the amount of players) and each player will get a private goal (a choice from 2 random draws). The goals are just what they sound like. If a player achieves them during the game (either the public or private) they get a sizable population bonus. I do like that the titles are thematically named as well. For example, the Aquatic Engineer goal is awarded to the player with the most lakes or the Miscreant goal is awarded to the player with the worst reputation. Once the game is setup, the start player takes their turn. Space Image For The Scoreboard (Make sure your scale is set to 100% when you print. Due to variability in printers, the color may not match with the published scoreboard.) Overall, Suburbia is pretty awesome. It plays well, looks good, has lasting replay value ... There’s simply not much to complain about." -148Apps

A couple of other significant actions are possible during the game: placing Investment Markers and turning tiles from the REM into Lakes. Population is a different matter entirely. In one sense, it’s the most important resource in the entire game, since the player who ends up with the highest population will, ultimately, win. However, during the game, increasing your population brings negative consequences in its wake. When the "1 More Round" tile is drawn, each player takes a final turn, then the game ends. [2] Players determine if any objectives have been achieved and adjust their borough's population per the objective's criteria. [2] The winner is the player with the greatest population, which is the game's victory points measure. [2] Reception [ edit ]I can’t say enough about how well the city-building theme of Suburbia coheres with the mechanisms of its gameplay. The game also does a fantastic job of combining an economic-engine building challenge with a spatial tile-laying puzzle. Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands) may take longer to reach you.
