Following the conclusion of their Evolve World Tour in 2018, Imagine Dragons' fourth studio album Origins was released that November. Unlike their previous albums, the band did not tour in promotion of Origins, instead opting to take time off to decompress and spend time with family. It hurts to see the band going in an even more pointless direction than before, and I hope they can find their way. In my opinion, both of these records are tied in terms of rating for me (Which is very, VERY bad!!!)Great if I was 10 Before this review, I would like to say that I like this band's early material. Smoke and mirrors was one of my first records I got into, so I make sure to give this band a fair shot, and this review is no exception. Peace Of Mind is fun, but the vocals are overprocessed? I'm not really sure what puts me off with these vocals, they're just offputting to me. Still would actually return to this song. Reynold’s lyrics have often come in for a hammering in the past, and his tendency to present the prosaic as poetry remains intact throughout. “There are times when I don’t like myself/I believe all the things that they say about me”, he sings on “I Don’t Like Myself”, showing the emotional vulnerability of a 15-year-old diarist, and the vocabulary to match. That might sound like a criticism, but it really isn’t. There’s much to be said in favour of plain speaking, and if your audience is primarily shouty, introspective teens then why would you write any other way?
