The band had managed to convince their record label to help pay for a studio in Glasgow, rather than paying for a producer and the band would record and produce their second album themselves. During the winter of 2007, the band huddled into their studio and recorded their second LP away from any record executives and announced in February 2008 that their new album was complete and will be released in May. The band played a showcase gig later that month at the Queen Margaret Union in Glasgow where they debuted 8 new songs from the new album. After a short hiatus that saw each member pursue other projects, the band regrouped in 2013 to record their third studio album and continue performing the festival circuit, as well as selling out out venues on their own. With a name derived from the criminal family in The Goonies, The Fratellis are formed of vocalist/guitarist Jon Fratelli (John Lawler), bassist Barry Fratelli (Barry Wallace), and drummer Mince Fratelli (Gordon McRory). The band’s debut performance came in March 2005 at the O’Henry’s Bar in Glasgow and earned their first radio play on Scotland’s Beat 106’s Beatscene show hosted by Jim Gellatly. The Fratellis subsequently signed with Fallout Records and released their debut EP “The Fratellis” in April 2006.

The next single, " Look Out Sunshine!", released on 18 August 2008 and with money on 8 December. The CD included a new song titled "Moriarty's Last Stand" and the accompanying DVD which features "The Year of the Thief" (a documentary of the band on the road in the US), a live show, and the singles "Mistress Mabel" and "Look Out Sunshine!". You might have heard that Glasgow’s Fratellis are a bit glam. Round their way, it’s all space hoppers, spangles and coveted Bolan seven-inches (that they might be able to swap for something from 1972-era Bowie). In Fratelliland, there are no iPods, no MP3s and YouTube is an adhesive for push-bike puncture repairs. They are shamelessly retro, yes, but don’t think that means they have no original ideas. the flame still burns? – Post by BarryFratelli on The Fratellis forum". thefratellis.com.
