Preheat your cup: If you want to keep your coffee at the optimum temperature for longer (and preserve all those delicious espresso flavours), warm your mug beforehand. Simply fill it with hot water, leave it for few minutes, then throw the water away. The mod for depressurising the basket often breaks the gasket, so you'll need to buy the bottomless portafilter for use with standard baskets. It's a small volume drip tray, and the auto-purge dumps quite a lot of water into it, one auto purge is probably about a quarter of the drip tray's volume.Bear in mind, this is a sizable machine, and it will take up a decent amount of counter space. We also noticed that there’s no low-water warning, which is a shame, but it’s not a deal breaker. Ultimately, if you’re happy to spend the money, and you want an espresso machine that looks as good as it performs, this is the one to get.

I'm going to have to try very hard to not let this turn into an encyclopedia of the Bambino Plus! ;-). I've had this one for a bit now, I've used it a LOT as my day-to-day espresso machine, and I've done loads of video guides on it. The best espresso machines typically come with a one or two year warranty and stay in operation anywhere from 7 to 10 years. As you would expect, an expensive fully automatic model will last the longest. When you buy a machine, don’t spring for an extended warranty. It’s unlikely that it will cost less than repairing your machine during its lifetime.

The Philips 3200 Series doesn’t come cheap, but it brings a lot to the table. This espresso machine lets the user create beverages which would usually require barista-level experience at the push of a button. It comes with several settings, including espresso, hot water, cappuccino, coffee, latte macchiato and americano. Plus there’s the option to customize your selection by strength, size and the amount of steamed milk. This is the new version of the Gaggia Classic for 2023, and this came as a bit of a surprise to me, as I didn't really see anything that was broken about the 2019 Pro that needed fixing. I think what Gaggia have done here is to mainly make changes to the Classic which makes things a bit easier for them, in particular for their manufacturing team, and I think they've timed the release of the new model with passing on crucial price increases.This kind of espresso machine is made to be more accessible both in terms of affordability and usability, as using a pressurised basket is easier, you don't need to “dial in”, and you don't need to grind as finely, in fact, you don't need to grind at all, you can use pre-ground coffee with these kinds of machines, if you really want to. What kind of boilers do cheap espresso machines have? It'll texture the milk for you if you want. Just make sure the jug is touching the temp sensor on the drip tray, choose your texture level, choose your temp, and what it produces is actually very good.
