About this deal

As we move further through the instruction booklet, the builds start to get a little more complex (though this is an exceptionally easy build). Our second retro build is a lunar buggy with the kind of the design you, yourself would have come up with if you’re a kid of the 80s. Not a complaint in anyway shape or form, it’s a wonderful homage to the hours I spent as a child building small-wheeled space buggy’s. You know what makes an awesome day even awesomer? When you grab a friend and start dancing – then you can be AWESOME TOGETHER! Join the amazingly awesome stars of THE LEGO MOVIE 2 as they boogie their hearts out throughout all of the incredible universes you’ll explore in the movie. They’re all here: fan favorites from the original THE LEGO MOVIE™ like Emmet, Lucy, Batman™, Benny, and Unikitty™, plus all-new characters Rex Dangervest, Sweet Mayhem, Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi, Banarnar, Ice Cream Cone, and more! And when the music starts pumping, their toes start tapping – this beat is so funky that the crew take their moves across the galaxy, from the wastelands of Apocalypseburg, the strange galaxy of the Systar System, the mysterious verdant Alien Jungle, and the eternally happy place known as Harmony Town. There’s no way you can sit still watching this number – you’ll be bopping to the beat in no time, learning moves that you didn’t know your body could do. They’re both near-identical to the OG Yellow and White Classic Space minifigures, even down to the old-style helmets.

This space toy for kids includes 4 new-for-January-2019 THE LEGO® MOVIE 2™ minifigures: Benny, Lenny, Jenny and Kenny. A single trans-yellow 1x2 plate forms the headlight which is charming in its simplicity and I like the basic steering wheel for the same reason. Lunar buggies produced during the earliest years of Classic Space always included red wheels and that might have been an interesting feature here, although light bluish grey wheel hubs are more consistent with the broader colour scheme so probably look slightly better. https://ideas.lego.com/blogs/a4ae09b6-0d4c-4307-9da8-3ee9f3d368d6/post/4314aa28-9ce8-445a-9ee0-72bf1e5088a4And as a side note, this crew of colorful characters just goes to show that anybody can be a “spaceman”— we’re just using the term as a nod to the retro days of the 70’s. Here’s a look at the Yellow and White Classic Space Minifigures, named Kenny and Jenny respectively.

Features a THE LEGO® MOVIE 2™ spaceship toy with a minifigure seat and a lunar buggy with 2 minifigure seats The Pink Classic Space Minifigure has been christened Lenny and joins Kenny, Benny (who we all know and love) and Jenny to form Benny’s Space Squad. The original Classic Space astronauts were only available in red and white, although a yellow minifigure appeared in 1979. Kenny takes inspiration from that design, featuring a yellow helmet without a broken chin strap which appears nearly identical to its predecessor. However, closer inspection reveals certain differences between them as the new element is bulkier than the older version, reducing the chance of breakage. I’d just recently run across that info too, but it didn’t feel like it matches what I’d read before, so I dug up the Exo-Suit interview: I hope LEGO made enough of Benny’s Space Squad to go around as they’ll be snapped up even at full price. Even at full price, this set is an incredible steal. Here we have Lenny, the brand new Pink Classic Space minifigure, and Benny, the Spaceship-crazed astronaut who debuted in the first LEGO Movie who is best known for this iconic scene. Jenny: Classic White Spacewoman Minifigure (appears in The LEGO Movieand The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part) MOC Robot (shown) is not included in Benny’s Space Squad Set. It is a playful addition built from this young builder’s personal LEGO collection. By the way, if you don’t have one, a LEGO baseplate is an excellent addition to any LEGO collection!

Lenny wears a brand new pink uniform which looks marvellous! Only five different colours appeared during the original Classic Space series and a green version became available with 21109 Exo Suit in 2014. This pink design is therefore a welcome addition to the range, featuring the familiar emblem and some air tanks which look perfect when integrated with older figures. Perhaps additional colours will be introduced in the movie! Here’s a comparison with the Lunar Buggy from 928 Galaxy Explorer (one of my favourite sets of all time). I wish they had managed to incorporate the red wheels, but it’s a close enough homage. Lastly, Classic Space was also filled with all sorts of Robots, and you piece together a small but charming little Spacebot. I really love the use of the trans-yellow cheese slope on its body. Of course, being new minifigures, their golden moons on the torsos are in pristine condition, which is the main reason why Classic Fans are so excited about this set – the prospect of brand new, original-style Classic Space torsos, oxygen tanks and even old-style helmets. The set comes with a small spaceship, which is a great homage to the forms and aesthetics of Spaceships from the Classic Space Era with its triangular shape.According to Matthew Aston, one of the producers for the movie, Lenny’s design drew inspiration from Kylie Minogue, specifically her pink space suit from the Put Yourself In My Place music video. His name Lenny is also a nod to “ Charlene Robinson“, the character she played in the Aussie soap opera, Neighbours.
