About this deal

The Verification and Validation model, also known as a V-model, is what Automotive SPICE builds on. The V-model is strict in its requirement for constant evaluation and development, so that potential issues can be eliminated at the first stage. The V-model consists of two stages. Each one of them includes different phases, as illustrated in the graphic below: The linear approach implied by the V-model suggests that ASPICE should be associated with a waterfall software development model. The ISO26262 enablement within the IBM ELM portfolio helps provide proper requirements management, design, and quality management practices. IBM ELM provides full traceability across all assets and work products, originating from requirements enabling change and configuration management to drive improvement around collecting process and operational information. IBM ELM also helps with accountability and progress reporting including the audit trail for work products and process. Teams can’t know where to go until they know where they are. A good place to start is to draft current processes and compare them to the ASPICE V-model. This effort can provide good insights into current levels compliance and where improvements can be made. Each of these points includes a corresponding testing phase, plus additional traceability and management processes. Suppliers can earn ASPICE certification according to these standardized achievement phases, and their assessment will result in specific ASPICE levels that clients take into account. It’s important to highlight that the agile approach to software development doesn’t interfere with ASPICE compliance. However, agile methodology can and should be adjusted to the needs and requirements of the Automotive industry. Probably the most well-known approach to combining agile and ASPICE is Agile SPICE ™. It was prepared by the Intacs Working Group as an add-on for Automotive SPICE.Its aim is to help implement agile best practices and achieve ASPICE expectations at the same time. Chapter three then goes into key processes in detail. The authors outline the core processes that are relevant to automotive companies and their suppliers. They also provide a number of insights into the issues that arise when using Automotive SPICE ®, many of which are based on over a decade of personal experience with the model. The fourth chapter focuses on assessments and their use in systematically evaluating the process quality of organisations.
