About this deal

The summer success and popularity of Across the Spider-Verse is not without controversy, though. Several animators came forward with claims of unsustainable working conditions imposed by producer Phil Lord during the making of the film, including numerous revisions and 11-hour workdays, seven days a week, forcing 100 animators to leave the project as a result. Viewers also complained about sound mixing issues during the movie's first week of its theatrical run, saying they had trouble hearing the dialogue over the music, although the studio later fixed the issue. Forget that it’s an upscale, this Spidey image is out-of-this-world gorgeous. There aren’t enough superlatives to express how good this image is. I’mma Do My Own Thing” Interdimensional Destiny (1080p; 8:26): A look at the many questions Miles faces in the movie. Selected items are only available for delivery via the Royal Mail 48® service and other items are available for delivery using this service for a charge. Across the Worlds: Designing New Dimensions (1080p; 7:52): A look at the different animation styles used in the movie.

Dialogue is natural sounding and given all the directionality it needs, did get a tad quiet when Gwen was leaving her father the second time, but otherwise never lost in the mix. Across the Comics-Verse (1080p; 8:03): Hiring many of the artists from the comic books to help design characters and worlds. In the first installment, the movie centered on Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) who is thrust into a universe of endless possibilities inside the multi-verse where met new Spider characters along the way including Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld). In this sequel, the film follows Morales just as much as it centers on Stacy as the two young adults try and understand their powers and that the multi-verse exists while keeping it all secret from their loved ones. It's a great parallel story where each character can learn from one another in different ways. Lyric Videos– Three total: “Annihilate” by Metro Boomin, Swae Lee, Lil Wayne and Offset, and “Calling” by Metro Boomin, Nav, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Swae Lee. Deleted Scene– Only one –“Miguel Calling” though given the film’s running time of nearly two and a half hours, this was cut.Plot: What’s it about? Video: How’s it look? Audio: How’s it sound? Supplements: What are the extras? The Bottom Line Plot: What’s it about? Detail is perfect, you’d expect as much being held in the digital realm, with everything being pinpoint accurate representing the artists’ ‘pen’ without missing a beat. Across the Comics-Verse– Essentially a look at how the comics were used as inspiration for this film and how they managed to cram everything into this movie.

Number 42 is the answer to the meaning of life, the universe and everything, at least according to the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. And, rather prophetically, it kind of is in the Spider-verse as well. Because it was the radioactive spider from this particular universe that spins the web that intertwines Miles Moralas and the rest of the Spider-men throughout existence. It can’t be a coincidence.By and large, this film did everything it was supposed to. The same visual elements that made the first so memorable are more at play here and I found it exhilarating to watch. It’ll most likely require a few viewings to soak everything in. That said, I couldn’t get into this one as much as I’d have liked. It’s almost like there was too much going on. Or maybe it’s that it’s been five years since I saw the first and I could/should have done a little brush up before diving head first into this one. That and, this really isn’t a spoiler, this is only the first of a two part finale. And let’s just say that they aren’t too discreet about how they “end” this one. But the same elements are at play here (yes, I realize I said that in my opening sentence). We get more of Miles and Gwen as well as a new slew of Spider-Man’s that you didn’t even know existed (Lego Spider-Man included). This one delivers on anything and everything it was supposed to, now the wait for “Part II” is upon us. Video: How’s it look? Scratches, Score and The Music of the Multiverse– At only five minutes, we get a peek at what it took to score the film along with some of the musical choices in this one. You want eye candy? You want eye popping colour? You want one of the best video presentations ever? Across the Worlds: Designing New Dimensions– The title essentially says it all – we get the rundown on how the new universe(s) were created. Upon release, both Spider-Verse films received high praise from us. In our review of Into the Spider-Verse, we gave it a 9/10 and called it “a dynamic visual experience unlike any other,” alongside stating that it was “a memorable big-screen debut” for Miles Morales. We gave Across the Spider-Verse a high score as well, landing on an 8/10 in our review and stating that it “surges with visual inventiveness and vibrance in an undeniably strong evolution of the style established in Into the Spider-Verse.”

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Cast– Essentially just that – we get a look at the actors voicing their roles, their “interactions” and so forth. Obscure Spiders and Easter Eggs (1080p; 5:39): A brief rundown of the many Easter Eggs scattered throughout the film. I’mma Do My Own Thing” Interdimensional Destiny– If you’ve not been introduced to films that have a multiverse, here’s a crash course for you. Creating the Ultimate Spider-Man Movie– The obligatory “making of…” feature that tells of the trials and tribulations of how this movie was made, to make it bigger, better, etc. but still retain the magic that the first one had.

Raising a Hero– I personally felt that a little too much time was paid to the families in this installment, but this feature at least explains why. Indeed, it is the interpersonal relationships, and the internal conflict of the characters that really move the story along – the ‘canon events’ that are so essential to the narrative are quintessentially the driving force behind the Spider-man character, and every Spider-man must go through them, it’s what makes him who he is. So, when Gwen is struggling with her father due to her own story, it is immediately recognisable even though the catalyst is different. This shared tragedy unites Gwen and Miles, hence their being drawn (haha, geddit) together. Thereby in writing the characters from this standpoint, there is a huge emotional hook, one of understanding - and one of justice; so, when it comes to choosing one over many, it is easy, and the audience is on board. Lyric Videos (1080p; 4:33): Annihilate by Mero Boomin, Swae Lee, Lil Wayne, Offset; Calling by Metro Boomin, Nav, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie with Swae Lee.

Obscure Spiders and Easter Eggs– Six minutes probably isn’t enough time for us to get all the references hidden in this film. But it’s a start. Suffice it to say you could watch this movie ten times and still probably miss a few of these cleverly hidden items. In Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse the tone is about becoming an adult and spreading one's wings to figure out what one wants to be as Morales is hounded by his parents about his school work and staying close to home during his college years. After something goes awry in Stacy's universe, she is called into action by a collective of Spider-people from all universes to try and save the day when and wherever they can. Headed by Spider-Man 2099 Miguel O'Hara (Oscar Isaac) this collective allows Stacy to reteam with Morales who wants nothing more than to help out and be the best he can be. Just as he finally feels like he's being accepted, Milese soon realizes that his views of being a hero clash with Miguel's and the collective of Spider-people forcing Miles and Gwen to question their beliefs of right and wrong. Filmmakers Commentary: The only special feature included on both discs, writer-producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson have a very lively discussion on the various aspects of the film including animation design, voice performance, story, etc. Designing Spiders and Spots– There are a lot of characters in this film and we get a look at just a sampling of them all. Can you say “massive undertaking?” If they want to wait for the Blu-ray and 4K UHD versions of Across the Spider-Verse, they will be released on September 5. And the score, oh boy, the score makes full use of the entire surround scape, dynamics and separation, it is astonishingly immersive, together with all the above places you right in the centre of it all. Incredible.
