Description

The enemies to lovers but actual enemies story of “I’ve been raised and have come to kill you” has already come to pass as of the prologue. This is a stand-alone NA third-person narrative following Sunnëva set in Urn (the same universe as The Guardians of the Maiden Series).

but reading about his past and how he was betrayed by everyone he thought was closest to him-did make me feel bad for him. I have to say, I hated Delton at first and how he coped with his past, but thinking about it, who wouldn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️ he has some serious trauma. If you like enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, and betrayal/ revenge stories, this one might be for you! Not just difficult living conditions but is also recovering from a past assault that has physcially and mentally scarred her. Xara's struggle to overcome her past traumas while regaining her power in a potentially powerless situation was a brilliant character arc. But now, Delton needs to find the biggest criminal in his kingdom and he thinks Xara might be able to help him… But what he doesn’t know is that the wife he thought useless is actually the criminal he is trying to catch and with their pasts and presents colliding, Delton and Xara will realize they might have been wrong about each other and will have to decide if they want to take a chance to have more than a loveless marriage. it had an almost acotar like beginning, starting with her rummaging and foraging and hunting for food for her family and her village, who were starved bc of the ice that had spread over the land bc of the Ice Phoenix (who later becomes my Sunnëva's husband).

I also love that COF is going to explore the legends which will be referenced to in the main story, following a new couple in different timelines for each book, and I can’t wait to immerse myself even more in this amazing world. I don't want to spoil anything, but it does feel as though her alter-ego is underdeveloped and she makes a few choices that I simply can't believe a successful, supposedly ruthless crime lord would ever make.

With its exhilarating highs and heartbreaking lows, this novel takes you on a mesmerizing journey that will leave you utterly enchanted. The experience really affected her and understandably so but I still hate to see this impact, not to mention this was in the context of virginity. I don’t know if Beck had all of this in mind years ago when she thought of these books or if she added some or most of them when they became famous, I really don’t know, but it is how it felt for me because I feel like the time invested in those tropes being presented could have been taken to develop a real relationship between Sunnëva and Jökull. I really appreciated the fact that the FMC didn’t fall for his apologies easily and made him work for it. I enjoyed reading this story but I felt like the pacing was very slow and the conflict was unnecessarily dragged till the very end.

I found myself genuinely caring for the characters and becoming emotionally invested in their journeys. This will be our only time to ask you to consider following and reviewing as you read or following ChemistryOfLife if you are eager for more updates. With enemies coming at them from different angles Sunnëva grapples with what she thought she knew, and what is true. From the Map at the beginning to the World Guide at the end, this book had it all: Laughs, Tears, Pain, Deceit, and Love.My heart was pulled in two different directions but I hope the rest of the books in this prequel series can make me love them whole. To summaries, I really enjoyed this book and the development of the relationship between Xara and Delton. The spice, banter, violence, devotion, tension and love between the main characters could not have been executed better. But Jökull eased her legs to one side of the saddle and laid her head on his chest, his arm cradling her close. I was kept curious the whole way throughout the book as I was trying to predict what was going to happen.

She is exactly the character we need more of - throughout this story I loved how both characters grew and continued to grow both alone and together. I love all the characters (except her dad which can drop dead), and this book made me feel for every one of them. Small spoiler: when she is now 20 in the present her hair is dyed blonde by her step mother for the king she is supposed to marry but she has an allergic reaction to the sulfur in the dye and she uses makeup to cover it so he doesn't recognize her) Anyways whenever he interacts with her his attraction to her or when he softens up towards her is because she reminds him of said child (that child being her) and his attraction to her is not even based on her in the present it's because of her younger self which is. Rune being Rumiel shocked the hell out of me and it made me wonder if he is still out there in the present day, like, Dyna is fighting a demon, so it makes me wonder if he never really passed through his gate –Also, I am very interested in Rune as a character, I don’t really get him as a villain, I mean, I don’t understand why he wanted to rule over everything but his story is definitely one I want to get to know-. Well done, spicy and just lovely, can't wait to read more from this author as she puts out further works, waiting in anticipation for her next release of the series.bicker and banter especially with the enemies-to-lovers trope but these were really too much for me. the pregnancy thing in the end too i wasn't a big fan of, bc she literally got pregnant the very first time they had sex wtf? There isn’t a true cliff hanger, yes it has been left cracked open for the series to continue on but the Jökull and Sunnëva story has a somewhat satisfying ending.
