Carson make a few simple but very cleverly designed binocular cases known as BinoArmor cases that wrap around your optics unlike traditional Binocular Cases. The eyepiece housing on these Carson's look to be made from a hard plastic or something similar, as do the twist-up eyecups, which have then been covered in a fairly thick and soft rubber coating. Also have a great warranty, lifetime "No Fault" so if you drop them and break them company will repair or replace for nominal fee, and if some defect shows up, repair/replace for free. Get a pair of Nikon Monarchs or Vortex Diamondbacks if you want, I totally understand the temptation, but they won't outperform these. The FMC prisms are coated with special materials and phase corrected which enhances light transmission and image brightness, ensuring you get the most detail out of the scene.

I'm only using these recreationally and with my untrained eye, I find the images sharp, crisp and clear. These and high reflective coatings on the prisms can make a really big difference on the brightness of the image produced.
