About this deal

Normally I don’t ‘review’ memoirs as I don’t think you should be rating the storytelling of someones life. All used books might have various degrees of writing, highliting and wear and tear and possibly be an ex-library with the usual stickers and stamps. Use of this site constitutes acceptance of our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy( Your California Privacy Rights) and Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. I’d sometimes hear her chewing out her students for not having practiced enough or chewing out their parents for delivering them late to lessons. This book told the story of how Michelle Obama grew up, and how she learned to deal with uncertainty and disorganization.

Whilst I don’t read non-fiction a lot, I really enjoyed this amazing memoir following Michelle Obama from her childhood, through her various jobs to how she become the First Lady of the United States. She managed to be there for her daughters’ swim competitions and attend plays at their schools without catching the spotlight, while defining and championing numerous initiatives, especially those geared toward kids, during her time as First Lady. I was just a kid, a girl with Barbies and blocks, with two parents and an older brother who slept each night with his head about three feet from mine. Michelle went on graduate but life soon took a turn when she met and fell in love with Barrack Obama. Prim and serious, she directed the choir at a local church and was also our community’s resident piano teacher. Featuring excerpts and photographs, with an overview of themes that appear throughout Michelle Obama’s inspirational memoir, this resource pack will support exploration of ideas from activism to politics, ethnicity to personal aspirations.

Michelle Obama’s firsthand accounts being First Lady and feeling the real effects of politics’ uglier aspects (and being a parent in the midst of it all) we’re more than a little thought-provoking. I really enjoyed how although her role as FLOTUS was heavily shaped by Barack, she she still focused on the things she achieved and was proud of, as opposed to just writing a biography about Barack and his successes. It is written in a text that flows well – and gives the reader a searingly honest view of what life was like, the struggles and triumphs of a thoughtful, driven young black woman to get to top class US universities and gain excellent qualifications from them and to find her place in the world. This bestseller that dominated the adult charts for some considerable number of weeks has now been adapted for younger readers losing something like 100 pages in the process. The content and ambition of the show remains the same: to give every pupil the opportunity to engage with authors and illustrators in their own classroom using the power of the internet. While Becoming: Adapted for Young Readers is recommended for those ages 10 and older, it is not an easy read. Her struggles with Motherhood to are covered, the book a lot more to her as a person then I would have thought.

I also loved her journey to the law firm and how she was torn between quitting to do something she loved and get paid less or keep the steady flow of money going and keep doing a job that made her miserable. On the whole, however, it's a great story, an important one for students to understand as we plow further into bipartisanship and forget that at one time there seemed to be measures of progress we could conceive of as being possible.

My family lived in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago, in a tidy brick bungalow that belonged to Robbie and her husband, Terry. When she met a kindred spirit in Barack Obama they were surely to become a force to be reckoned with. It also highlights the fact that African-Americans, to achieve, have to set very high standards for themselves, and have to work harder for the recognition that the majority gets just because they are the majority.
