It’s the first time I’ve read an interior design book, so I’m not very qualified to judge, but I thought this was a great peek into the author’s mind. They often give an even white glow, and you have to have light corners, but you also have to have dark corners. Since then, she's been helmed as one of the most in demand London-based creatives – who was part of Architectural Digest's Top 100 list in 2020 – known for her mischievous, family-friendly aesthetic that's mixed with a Scandinavian attention to detail.

Swedish-born, London-based interior designer Beata Heuman founded her eponymous studio in 2013 after working for Nicky Haslam for nine years.Maria and Adam were way ahead of the curve, and they design such great pieces, all within the constraints of working with reclaimed materials.

Most of these rooms are not ones that I would dare to attempt myself, but I loved reading about her design philosophy and poring over her notes as we contemplate our own choices for our home. When I think of her (studio's) work I think of circuses, Victorian-era novels, winter and Christmas magic, endless summers, hopefulness, laughter and so many more things but most of all I think of childhood. True to her spirit of self-expression, Heuman doesn’t offer dictatorial tips, instead hoping to encourage readers to trust their own instincts.Big rooms, small rooms, dark and light, textures, colors can all be quite subtle, but the tension that makes the room sing relies on the contrast you have in a room. The client said her granny once had a similar kitchen and the style immediately connected her to her own childhood.
