Description

It's a short, cute read with many essential points and pointers of what to do to take care of yourself on different levels. It not only feels nice but there is a lot contained in this little book - the content is really helpful and informative and delivered in an engaging yet compassionate style.

Using only the single word "hug" throughout the book, this simple, endearing story is told through Jez Alborough's gorgeous, detailed artwork. In the book, the worry monsters explain that there are lots of ways to feel connected to people, even when it’s not possible to have a hug. The soft, warm illustrations add beautiful details to Little Bear’s daily adventures, as he’s reminded of Big Bear and her love for him. An ever changing collection that offers ornate Victorian accessories, 1930’s style American craft pieces through to art-glass Tiffany lamps, interwoven with Arabian inspired lights for an exotic flavour.

I love that it focuses on positivity from a holistic viewpoint and ways that you can introduce positivity into your day in a structured way that makes it easy to become routine. I would add to this shelf: the Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wrecked, The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ.As children grow up and explore the world, their daddy's hugs make sure they feel safe and loved – every step of the way. The charming book has you or your children as the author(s) and there’s space for a personal message at the beginning of the book too, making it a perfect keepsake gift. We just had to include the wonderfully uplifting The Lost Words by Rob Macfarlane and Jackie Morris, who wrote the book after noticing certain words from nature were disappearing. A lyrical, heart-warming message of love from someone far away When Big Bear and Little Bear have to say goodbye, Big Bear tells Little Bear about all the ways she'll send a hug from afar: I can change my hug into bird song early in the morning, or into the sea so I can wave at you when you are on the beach. We at Penguin Random House Australia acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the Traditional Custodians and the first storytellers of the lands on which we live and work.

Bonus feature: the boxes love a second life as something so imaginative only a child could dream it up. With interactive pull-tabs and wheels to turn, this pop-up book is a playful way to talk about consent and body boundaries with little ones.

We celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, traditions and living cultures; and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. A graduate of Central St Martin's Illustration course, her work includes commissions from the Guardian, Elle Decoration, the Sunday Times and the New York Times. It will reassure young children that even when they can’t see someone, that someone is thinking of them and loving them all the while. We honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' continuous connection to Country, waters, skies and communities. Walking through the jungle he passes lots of creatures enjoying a cuddle together: elephants, chameleons, lions, giraffes, hippos – even the snakes have got someone special to squeeze.

Big Bear has to go away, but she reassures Little Bear that even when they’re not together, she can still send him big hugs full of love. The Lost Words set people's imagination on fire; crowd-funding around the country ensured the book was delivered to schools, while music was set to the bewitching words and The Lost Words Prom appeared at the Royal Albert Hall in 2019. The hugs will be changed into birdsong, or waves on the sea, or sunshine or the scent of grass after rain. I was skeptical of all of similar sorts of books in the past and wondered whether they would have good longevity in practical use, but this is really easy to follow and adopt into my daily life — look forward to any future publications!
