About this deal

I studied theater first and jumped into acting in two feature films without formal film acting training. Four stars for the DVD because it does feel dated and just suddenly ends with a very 80s video advert for other films in the series.

Caine dismisses the idea of the 'movie star' and instead talks about the techniques and art of acting. In this book actor Michael Caine describes being a leading actor in films, he says that his job is the carry the entire film and give life to the filmmaker’s vision. The advice given had even more resonance as it was written by his all-time favourite, Michael Caine. He also discusses the fact that people pigeon holed him as a 'cockney working class actor' and the problems this caused in his career. Then word spread that I was quite amenable, so I became “that easy-to-work-with working-class actor who wears glasses and smokes a cigar. I bought it for my 15 year old and expected him to say it it was dated - and, sure, it is - but the little tips and tricks that Caine delivers to his young student actors (including a young and posh Celia Imrie) are exquisite. I was a Cockney boy and obviously didn’t fit anybody’s idea of what an actor was supposed to be, so I decided to put together elements that added up to a memorable package. Most of the acting topics that are covered in the book are explained in more detail in the masterclass.

If the leading actor is talented and has great presence, if he can immerse himself into the skin of the character and use his unique acting skills and methods to engage you, you will believe in the character he plays. After you see it, you will look at acting in films in a different way, and notice little details that separate great actors from good ones.Learn from two-time Academy Award-Winning actor Michael Caine how to properly prepare yourself for a very competitive field.

This is a rather fascinating hour long documentary where Michael Caine teaches a small group of students how much different it is to act for the camera, as opposed to a live audience. His first major starring roles, beginning in the 1960s, include 'Zulu,' 'The Ipcress File,' and 'Alfie. He talks about entering sets where he only had one line to speak, waiting for hours to say that one line and that many stars on the film sets could be very arrogant and refused to talk to anyone below them.

Mr Caine knows exactly what he’s doing and his advice is the most helpful I’ve found so far on acting for the camera.

I did very much enjoy what Caine had to say, even when I did not understand what he was talking about. Un acercamiento totalmente amigable para el actor en formación e incluso meros aficionados a dicho arte; donde no sólo cuenta su propia experiencia frente a la cámara, sino que comparte consejos que pueden tener impacto en la carrera propia para bien o para mal. This is definitely invaluable material for anyone who wants to go into film (and in some ways theatre) from all aspects or anyone who’s every wanted a detailed idea of what a makes a film actor a professional.

So many things kept in the dark brought to light I never thought about in film acting and Caine’s stories, analogies, etc. He is a major Hollywood film star and two-time Academy Award winner with a career spanning over sixty years. Professionalism and personal advice is covered, as well as more technical advice in acting before the camera, and the differences between acting on stage and acting on camera.
