I managed to finish the book and I actually like the chapter with negotiator John Sutherland (again, he's the greatest while the rest of the police force is very bad! A much-used word, karma is loosely understood as a system of checks and balances in our lives, of good actions and bad deeds, of good thoughts and bad intentions. We're not currently in the golden era of conversation - it has either eroded away into emojis or escalated into online wildfires.

Really enjoyed the start, particularly the bit about children maths test snd how their hormones were impacted depending on whether they spoke to someone after or if the texted. When Billy can’t find the informant, he wonders if Kate is secretly harboring her, since the two grew close during Kate's weeks undercover. And I think thats what the Author wanted to get across from the book and they suceeded surprisingly well. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events. In August 2022 he came to Intelligence Squared to discuss his new book Let’s Talk, which explores the evolution of dialogue and the science behind stimulating conversation. This book offers an insightful, yet not judgemental, analysis of the state of conversation today and presents a range of practical conversational tools, all grounded in real experience. As an audiobook format listening to the ‘guests’ and hear their take on how to have good conversations was great but I would’ve like more specific mechanics to learn from. It reads like an essay, or perhaps a dissertation in 277 pages: introducing the subject, taking the reader through the history of conversation, and then interviews with some 'conversation experts' including a police negotiator, politician in the Northern Ireland peace process, film maker, clinical psychologist and TV chat show host. Bringing their own unique and counter-balanced personalities to proceedings they ask questions such as: what is happiness?

The best thing about this book is that Nihal practices what he preaches—he models how to have better conversations by interviewing people who have powerful stories to share. He revealed insights from leading authorities in neuroscience as well as from popular figures including Lorraine Kelly, former president of Ireland Mary McAleese, Professor Tanya Byron, Matthew Syed and many more, whom he has interviewed to find out why good conversation has eroded and how we can fix it. Throughout the book, we are shown the importance of a good conversationalist being driven by knowledge. Think about how this, and how you can make other people feel when you are interacting with them; however brief that connection may be.Nihal interviews a range of people for whom communication is a key part of their life and business, whilst blending in some of his own stories and experiences along the way, to highlight his key recommendations for the importance of open and varied communication, and how we need to improve in ‘the art of conversation’. Eliminate negativity and change your life with best-selling author, happiness expert and life coach Domonique Bertolucci. Best-selling author Mark Manson brings his signature no-nonsense wisdom back to the subject he started his career covering: relationships.

Sir Michael Caine knows a thing or two about gangs: whether that’s joining one as a kid, or playing them in movies for over 50 years. Whilst as a society we can benefit from instant messaging through text and WhatsApp, we are primed to hear rather than see. Within the chapter “Conversations in Extremis” we are given insights into conversations with Paramilitaries, Neo-Nazis and Hostage Negotiation; where people with opposing views still find a way to communicate. As an essential part of my day job as a coach is having better conversations, I was intrigued by what I would uncover when I read “Let’s Talk (How to Have Better Conversations)*.She previously worked as The Guardian's women's editor, a features commissioning editor on g2 and as a reporter for the Sunday paper, The Observer. Now he wants to understand how he developed his skills, what it exactly means to have a 'great conversation' and, most importantly, how he can teach us to have better interactions in our everyday lives. I enjoyed the fact that the author narrated the audiobook himself and it featured snippets of his interviews with some of the interesting people he talks to at work.

Nihal’s writing is engaging as his interviews, bringing us a book that covers a range of topics including The Evolution of Communication, The Mechanics of Communication.
