About this deal

slightly more noise than the OC16, but again, only in the way that SDCs are inherently noisier than LDCs. They see its accurate transient response, phase linearity, pure polar pattern and smooth off‑axis sound as being universal benefits that confer advantages in any recording or live context. Overall, users will find that it exceeds all expectations and should be extremely impressed with the ETHOS. My voice had a weight, presence and crispness that was in sharp contrast to anything I’d used before. Removing the foam filter gives the sound some extra air, and unless you work the mic very close, popping doesn’t seem to be a big problem, so I quite often used it that way.

Plain and simple, if you purchased a products from Front End Audio then our staff will always be here to give you support. Earthworks Audio includes a 3/8" screw thread attachment with the Ethos, saving me from digging around in boxes of miscellaneous accessories. Using the mic without its foam screen does require better mic technique to avoid overpowering plosives, but the increase in purity and liveliness of the sound is worth it.

In fact, some of its most industry-leading products are measurement microphones, designed to capture detail with the utmost accuracy. The ETHOS was already a great microphone but the addition of RX 10 Elements makes it a better value than ever. It's shipped in a cardboard box (a nice one, I’ll add) instead of a crafted wood box or pelican style case and is everything you’d expect from an Earthworks microphone: Beautifully machined metal, solid connectors, and when you unscrew the windscreen, you'll spot a familiar tapered capsule design at the end of the mic. In audio, our perception of what feels real and natural is extremely sensitive to temporal resolution.

If you were to move from something like an SM7B to the ETHOS, I think you’d notice the difference as one of refinement and openness at the top end, rather than a night and day contrast in character. Attaching and positioning the ETHOS to my mic stand was easy; you’ll undoubtedly appreciate the included Earthworks’ M2-R ball-mount.Some of these issues can be overcome by speaking closer to the microphone – roughly 2-3 inches away. My first impressions of the Ethos microphone lined up with the mission statement advertised by Earthworks Audio; to be sophisticated and uncomplicated. With years of experience testing and reviewing technology products, Bruce has become a trusted voice in the tech industry. The high level of craftsmanship is immediately obvious and the unmistakable care and dedication that went into its design and construction is simply magnificent. ETHOS is naturally resistant to handling noise and thumps thanks to internal dampening and robust stainless steel construction.
