About this deal

Now I’m going to disappoint some of you as I can’t put an exact figure on the savings for me as I have heating oil in a tank in the garden making it difficult to measure usage and the app here doesn’t help as I’ve just realised you can’t go back more than 3 months. but when its on it kicks out so much heat i think it was too powerful from the room but it looks good so a smart TRV which will irk my wife no doubt will help our bill as i am sure it really eats up the combi use. What sets this smart radiator valve apart from the herd is both the trusted brand name – it’s a well-known, long-standing one – and the display, which shows the temperature, battery power and other useful info. However, when the battery switches off, the app will notify you a smart thermostat has gone off line which is how you know when to recharge them, and the app prompts you to replace old batteries when they still have useful life left in them - which I know because I’ve reused the pairdeer batteries for things like games consoles, so my approach with the rechargeables seems less wasteful.

e. it's connected to the Hub via wireless) I would recommend you fit a TRV (smart or otherwise) to all radiators bar the bathroom. Our radiator thermostat works seamlessly with most existing thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) in your home. Being able to set the temperature in Celsius, which makes more sense than a number between one and seven, or one and five if you have a newer thermostat radiator valve. But if you’re worried about paying for premium automated services, the longevity of the company who supplied your system, or even want to do away with the cloud altogether, you could embrace the open source Home Assistant software. Also, a wall stat is more convenient to do a quick temp change in a main area without having to get your phone out.

Locating the thermostat in a warm space, such as the kitchen, risks it turning off early because for example the cooker or tumble dryer is on and this has warmed up the room. I find this very useful for when I’m working from home and want just my study heated, or more significantly at the weekend where I want all the downstairs heating only to come on, and also going to bed, I can turn off all the heating at the touch of a button. You can set up weekly schedules so, for instance, you can have the heating turned off if you’re out all day at work Monday to Friday, but turn up the heat during the weekend days. These come as standard with our multi-room kits, plus, are available as individual add-ons, so you can add more zones to your home over time.

I suppose the thermostat issue derives from the fact I'm only used to "dumb" heating systems where you turn the temp up and all the rads come on until the set point is reached. Average connectivity range is 25-40 feet but will depend on location of Heat Hub and thickness of walls. At present I have my downstairs radiators on smart TRV's and the upstairs radiators on manual TRV's.Now the lack of a convenient user interface is a criticism you sometimes hear about the Drayton Wiser system, which is of course app based. Do I have to put a smart thermostat on all radiators or should I not bother on the hallway, and maybe the bathroom? Mike has integrated Wiser into Home Assistant and can schedule away mode so he doesn’t have to remember to turn it off and has better control over valve signal strength and can activate heating schedules based on occupancy.

There’s no guarantee this won’t happen, but so far so good that Drayton are going to keep Wiser off the subscription model. It seemed obvious that individual control of every room was the holy grail but it's been a long time coming. I then have wiser smart TRV’s on all other rads in the house, set up in different zones (bedrooms/kitchen/landing etc).

I don't mean to sound like a d*ck but it's not clear why you've bought the system if technology isn't your thing. Replace your existing manual thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) with Wiser Radiator Thermostats to give room-by-room heating control. The fear of battery replacement is what may hold a lot of you back from installing smart radiator valves, and a few of you said in the comments how they wish the valves could be hardwired to circumvent the need for batteries. So I bought these Duracel Pro batteries which are generally doing okay - apart from where they failed very quickly for that thermostat behind the radiator cabinet.

Features include open-window detection, so it will shut off If the temperature drops suddenly and it’s compatible with any boiler. So do let me know in the comments section below what I’ve missed and what your experiences are, as this will massively benefit anyone watching, who is thinking of installing the Wiser or other smart heating system.

Eve is designed to heat individual rooms or the whole house to suit your routine via your iPhone or internet connection. You probably want to be able to control the kids room independent of others and that's good for a smart TRV. Wiser tech guy said that during calibration the head should detect the initial resistance of the pin (the fully open) and the hard stop 'closed' position. But also, it is useful for those in the family that don’t have access to the app, and for area where radiator temperature is not accurate due to bad air circulation.
