About this deal

I loved the way it was not only focused around our main character Nancy but the house itself and travelling back in time to the house during the war and Nancy's grandmother. To escape the media and peering eyes she unlocked Tall Chimneys, her grandmother's home which was bequeathed to Nancy. Honestly there’s not much I can say with the plot because the main plot ended quicker than the second plot. Partly set during WW 11 and partly in the present day on the South coast of England this book grabbed me early on and kept me hooked throughout. There is a whole separate timeline and story that takes up half of the book that is a story from WWII. If you like mystery books about family secrets with a bit of darkness, add this one to your TBR list. this book had a wonderful story line that will draw you in from the beginning till the end, it was a great page turner that will have you up to to the early hours of the morning; I found this book very hard to put down once I started to read it.Henry was not a nice man, but he had his demons from the First World War, you get the impression he only married Elizabeth because she owned Tall Chimney’s, a beautiful house with amazing views. I found this was overused and every time we switched back I had to reorient myself on what had happened.

In the aftermath of a family tragedy, she retreats to a family home, ‘Tall Chimneys’ on the coast in Sidmouth, Devon. As the story progresses the two stories link, bringing both the history of Elizabeth and what happened between 1941 -1945 and then for a few years later. This book will have you on the edge of your seat wondering just what happened to Nancy's mom and step-dad! After a sensational trial which sent her stepbrother to prison for a double murder, Nancy flees to the Cornish countryside to escape the prying eyes of the public and media. The Sidmouth setting is highly effective with a well balanced claustrophobia weighed against a strong sense of community.

The book is sold solely on the storyline set on the present day events with no mention of the WW2 story which takes up over half the book. Which is also where the past timeline comes in as we are introduced to Elizabeth, who owns the house and runs it as a boarding house during the Second World War. My favourite time line was of Elizabeth during WW2 at her home Three Chimneys and the cast of characters that surrounded her. This was a beautifully written and amazing story surrounding a beautiful regency house and the people who lived in the house.Using some historical facts the author has woven a tale of three generations that have lived in the house.
