About this deal

Junji Ito, as J-kun, has recently built a new house and has invited his fiancée, A-ko, to live with him.

All of our books are 100% brand new, unread and purchased directly from the publishers in bulk allowing us to pass the huge savings on to you! In "The Events of One Late Night," J-kun tries to bribe the cats to sleep on his bed, rather than A-ko's, to no avail.

I found myself smiling or laughing more than I was wincing and cringing at the horror or scare tactics. Junji Ito makes gleeful use of his superior horror aesthetics to create a charming love letter to the cats his wife forced into his life. this is a comedic-horror manga, and it speaks to those of us who have invited these little devils into our hearts and homes, and the everyday horrors we endure as a result.

Maybe that was exacerbated by how much of the volume was taken up by interviews, but it still felt too small to be a complete story. They do say that pets can be perfect for reducing blood pressure, but Junji's is about to go right through the roof.

A-ko's appearance, with her almost entirely white eyes, has also been noted to share similarities with yokai, supernatural Japanese entities. This is Juni Ito of horror manga like Uzumaki (you know, where a town is consumed by spirals in three volumes) doing diary comics about his pet cats, so you can probably already guess whether this would ever appeal to you. Alongside authors such as Maruo Suehiro and Kazuo Umezu, Junji Ito is well-known as one of Japan's greatest in the genre of horror manga. But when both cats arrive, he swiftly descends into a breakdown because the cats don't love him as much as he discovers he loves them.

Silverman wrote that A-ko's terrifying appearance reflected her love for her cats, in that she appeared "as creepy as many of us cat owners fear we do.

Wonderful, deadpan humour pervades Junji Ito’s tongue-in-cheek, autobiographical manga based on a reluctant conversion from dog person to cat person. The art style is still Ito's classic horror style, but this time juxtaposed with the hilarity of the story of a non-cat-lover adjusting to life with two cats. Publisher Kodansha compiled the ten installments of the manga into a bound volume and released it in March 2009. Anime News Network's Rebecca Silverman wrote that Ito's realistic art worked to make the cats endearing, while the moments of horrific art served as comedy. Despite the imagery (and maybe even because of it) the comedy works even better as these monstrous creatures slowly win over his dog loving heart.

Here though he’s telling simple and comedic moments about his own life with his fiancée and her two cats… but he’s a horror artist through and through, so how does he tell this tale? Faustine Lillaz of Planete BD, in contrast, wrote that the humor of the manga would have a wide appeal. It is s perfect addition to my collection and really showcases Ito’s humor as he navigates his life with his fiances cats.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Visuals that could be alarming in other works are played for comedy (for example an extended mouth with over large teeth moving towards a cat and a panel saying “I’m going to gobble you up” then the next frame showing kissing/cuddling the cat). But slowly the cats start to exert their charm on J-kun who becomes obsessed with winning them over - bombarding them with tasty treats, taunting them with fluffy, cat wands - determined to rank first in their affections. Unidentified Creature" centers on a visit from A-ko's parents and Goro, the timid cat they bring along. His longest work, the three-volume Uzumaki, is about a town's obsession with spirals: people become variously fascinated with, terrified of, and consumed by the countless occurrences of the spiral in nature.
