Whether sipping the whisky neat, on the rocks, or as part of a crafted whisky cocktail, these glasses elevate the enjoyment of Nikka Yoichi single malt to a new level. Peat, coupled with the distillery’s close proximity to the ocean leaves a lasting imprint on the Yoichi products, imparting a salty and smoky character not dissimilar to the famous Scottish malts of Islay. The location for the Miyagikyo distillery was selected because of its clean air, just the right humidity for storage, and abundant underground water filtered through a layer of peat.

This limited edition of Yoichi single malt was introduced in 2021 as the first of the “Nikka Discovery” series.

Crafted using traditional methods such as direct coal-fired distillation, the Yoichi single malt reflects the authentic character of its coastal location on Japan’s northernmost island. Peat, coupled with the distillery's close proximity to the ocean leaves a lasting imprint on the Yoichi products, imparting a salty and smoky character not dissimilar to the famous Scottish malts of Islay. This is a blend of single malt vintages from the Yoichi distillery, Nikka’s first to be built, in 1934. The small stills are coal-fired, the malts have a slightly peaty touch and maturation is carried out in bourbon, sherry and virgin oak barrels.
