About this deal

It is all about one man who goes sea kayaking, I never imagined how I would be so captured with this story but it is so engaging and I didn't want to stop reading. The adventure continues on to the Faroe Islands, Norway, Denmark, Germany, France and Spain, he faces dangerous seas often and instead of backing down or taking risks he uses a sensible head and constantly makes the right decisions, an incredible ability to read the sea. One of the most moving and affecting books I've read in a long time, it is profound, thoughtful, fascinating and, above all, beautiful. The remarkable variety of those coastal areas and challenges faced to traverse them, have been beautifully distilled. From the wildness and peace of the sea, looking back at the land, Toby hoped to gain the strength and balance he knew nature could provide and to discover what anchors us to each other.

Lots to learn and some amazing places visited and it has definitely spurred me to want to see more of the world once more and live for the moment. Toby's outrageously fearless spirit and good humour will not fail to uplift and spur you on to pursue your own adventures. A guide and companion for us all, whether we are embarking on voyages of our choosing or dealing with waves and storms dealt to us.

Thank you to Netgalley, the authors and publishers for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

The ending is moving even though I knew it was coming I was rooting for a different ending for Toby. I read this wonderful book often with a lump in my throat, many tears in my eyes and a racing pulse, because of the pure adventure of his inspirational physical and emotional endeavours. The reason for 3 stars is I found the first and last thirds enjoyable but the middle 100 pages ish I found repetitive in their descriptions and sometimes lost where we were, how he got there, where the car suddenly appears from, even which year it is.But what really elevates this above other travellers' tales is the astonishing and moving story of the book's completion - a remarkable collaboration across the ultimate gulf. Not a book I would have picked, I was gifted this and felt that I should read it - I am so very glad that I did.
