About this deal

El and Cat haven’t spoken for years, they were so close as children but past events have driven them apart and they haven’t seen each other for quite some time. Cat lives in Los Angeles, about as far away as she can get from her estranged twin sister El and No. has left Cat clues in almost every room: a treasure hunt that leads right back to Mirrorland, where she knows the truth lies crouched and waiting.

Were there concepts or situations that you created myths or misunderstandings around when you were young and that you had to revisit when you grew older? And everyone else fit into very familiar and well worn tropes we see in the genre without really exploring beyond. Having had a trusted blogger read and love Mirrorland, I had pretty high expectations going in, expectations that it absolutely knockdown out of the park.A picture of El and Ross on holiday somewhere fills the screen—all tan and white teeth; his arm flung around her shoulders as she leans in, tips up her chin to laugh. The novel starts off with a murder, and with seven people trapped on an isolated Greek island lashed by a "wild, unpredictable Greek wind. What an imagination to have crafted such a story' Carol C 'A beautifully written story that holds you enthralled from first page to last' Sarah M 'This is a book that will keep you awake all night' Maria P 'Hugely compelling.

I start as the camera zooms out from the yacht club to show the distant rail and road bridges at Queensferry in the west, before panning back east towards the outcrops of Earlsferry and North Berwick. A man in a long anorak is standing next to him, looking down and obviously speaking, but Ross isn't paying attention. Whilst I don’t want to give any spoilers, I do want to provide some trigger warnings because the novel confronts issues of child abuse, rape and sexual abuse, domestic violence, drug abuse, mental trauma, coercive control, gaslighting, alcohol abuse, and mental illness. When they grow up, they grow apart, their estrangement solidifying them when El manipulates Cat’s boyfriend, Ross, a neighborhood boy and occasional part of their Mirrorla And really, it’s so farfetched and unbelievable, and the story before it isn’t strong enough to make up for it (unlike “Psycho”). I will admit to getting freaked out on more than one occasion, but the magical element at the start of the book help ease us as the reader, as well as Cat, into the truth of the story.
