About this deal

It’s wonderfully wholesome, and I hope heralds the rise of a 'slice-of-life' sub-genre in modern fantasy. Special thanks to my Patrons on Patreon for giving me extra support towards my passion for reading and reviewing! She also finds a little mystery to solve after a man in gray appears in town and makes people uneasy.

There’s a bit more excitement and adventure, without compromising the comforting ambience of this world and its characters. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Gallina is a supporting character in Legends and Lattes, and I have no doubt we will see Fern, Potroast, and Maylee again in one or two future-to-be-written books in this world. Feeling less foul, she limped toward the door, but each thud of her heel against the floor pulsed black at the edges of her vision. A suspicious traveller in grey, a gnome with a chip on her shoulder, a summer fling and an improbable number of skeletons prove Murk to be more eventful than Viv could have ever expected. Last but not least, Gallina, Viv's friend from the first book, is also in Murk and we get to find out how the two of them met and what their relationship was like before they teamed up.

The thought of hobbling her way around a little of the town was a lot more attractive than it had been a few minutes ago. For me it was a case of all or nothing - it could have been a sweeping romantic tale with a little adventure or it could have been a frisky little adventure with a taste of sweet romance but it kind of didn't commit to either. Viv caught him watching her devour the food from the other end of the bar and tried to slow down, but the potatoes were salty and rich with the egg, and it was hard not to shovel it in without pausing. Through meeting the right people at the right time, or maybe the right people at the wrong time, Viv will eventually realize there is more to life than just fighting and killing. i just loved this book completely, and, the epilogue of this book is a six star read all on its own.

Finally, as I've already mentioned, everyone in Murk, the small town Viv is stranded in, is full of adorable people. After the indie author's breakthrough success with LEGENDS AND LATTES, everyone was eager to see what he would do next and a lot of people were suddenly speaking of a new subgenre in "cozy fantasy. Our beloved orc, Viv, gets injured whilst her and the other mercenaries are pursuing a powerful necromancer. A suspicious traveler in gray, a gnome with a chip on her shoulder, a summer fling, and an improbable number of skeletons prove Murk to be more eventful than Viv could have ever expected. When the tavernkeep brought out a skillet and set it on the counter along with a fork and a napkin, she almost seized the hot handle with her bare hand in her hurry to drag it closer.

A long bar ran along the back wall, and the tavernkeep leaned against it, idly cleaning a copper mug. Glass floats and storm lanterns were strung or nailed up in the rafters, alongside netting and weathered oars with names carved into them. Viv was so used to her very existence being an obvious threat that it was honestly startling to hear a casual joke at her expense, even such a mild one. Whether this was necessary for the story or not doesn't matter as the story still is mostly low stakes.

this book starts out with viv and rackam (and their mercenary group - the ravens) in battle against a necromancer’s skeleton army! She is a dwarf, so, just like Fern, she barely reaches Viv's knee and keeps feeding everyone pastries.
