The Last Knight 1-Step Turbo Changer Autobot Hot Rod is a retool of Age of Extinction One-Step Changer Lockdown, transforming from vehicle to robot by pressing a button on his vehicle mode. While almost the entire figure has been remolded, the lower legs and feet as well as some internal structuring parts remain unchanged. Extensions in the figure's hips give Rodimus some slight extra height over Hot Rod, while a spring-loaded pop-out second face, revealed when the figure's helmet is tilted back, gives him his older, lined features; this face is somewhat narrower than Hot Rod's, combining with a slight elevation of the back-mounted spoiler to further create the illusion of a larger figure. In this case, it is the shot of Hot Rod about to open the Matrix as he stands within Unicron's innards.
Despite appearances, Rodimus Prime is not a retool or engineering reuse of the Studio Series Hot Rod toy; though they feature similar transformation steps, the key difference is the lack of a faux chest. The deco has been altered by changing the side striping from white to yellow, while the stripes over the hood, roof and trunk have been eliminated altogether, replaced by a Hot Rod-style flame graphic on the hood and front guards. In amongst all that was the Masterpiece figure, but given some of the QC issues that has maybe that's best left forgotten.In the London Escape scene from Transformers: The Last Knight, Hot Rod diverts the authorities as Bumblebee races to the Royal Navy Submarine Museum. Hasbro then took this deco, altered it, and released it in the US line at mass retail as the new character Excellion.

The really cool thing about this figure though are all the other surprise features Hasbro have packed into the body. I think there was still some confusion as to what this SS86 line was supposed to be but I'm happy to say that this was the only time this sort of thing has ever happened. However, a discussion with Takara staff revealed that this was a coincidence, as Duke Fire's designer had not seen the New Rodimus design.
