I dont remember reading a book and catching myself daydreaming about it in my adult life, but all of a sudden I am experiencing that again! Despite suppesdly being together for 2 years at the start of the book, the main couple have very little chemistry as the author tends to tell and not show.

This story is also slightly more tense, and we get a possible mystery involving dragon eggs which makes for far reaching consequences, which I’m sure will come to fruition in the rest of the series. I like how the book starts with an established relationship, but one which was forbidden and then we see how they adjust to proximity when they manage to run away. They're always ensuring the other is okay and talking through their issues, but it doesn't feel like organic conversations people should have. totally googly eyed for each other, which is fine, but also feels a little like the early-relationship stage despite having been together for quite some time?

Now, you might be wondering if something like that could even factor into a “cozy” fantasy–and the answer is a resounding yes. it is not enough to have your characters sometimes be in a setting that would be described as cozy, the story should make your readers feel cozy. But a near-death experience has her realizing what and who is truly important in life, and what she wants from it - so now she is taking that chance. Worn wooden floors, plants on every table, firelight drifting between the rafters - all complemented by love and good company.
