Gibson later clarified: 'What happened was that Larry always wanted to control the distribution of Tulsa himself. Larry Clark was living with Gibson at the time, whom he introduced to Danny Seymour, a friend and neighbour of Robert Frank on the Bowery.

But Clark went there first, and Tulsa remains a template for all that followed, a blurring of the lines between voyeurism and intimate reportage, between honesty and exploitation. The covers show some edge/shelf wear with minor creasing and a 1" tear to top of spine, not affecting contents. In his collages and videos of the late 1980s and early 1990s, he broadened this investigation into revealing the ways that mass media alternately creates, rejects, and eroticizes young people. Ever interested by teenage subcultures, Clark chose young amphetamine users in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma as his subject matter for this book Included are 50 black and white photographs that examine their daily lives.

C. Stunning autobiographical photo essay of an intravenous drug user with gritty photos of drug addicts, criminals and gun play. First edition, first printing; 4to (305 x 223 mm, 12 x 8¾ in); black-and-white photographs printed in offset, toned; photo-illustrated adhesive-bound wrappers, corners lightly creased as often, other handling mark and a short tear at the foot of spine, a very good copy; [64]pp. The artist’s works are held in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Fotomuseum Winterthur in Switzerland, among others. Cover image from Tulsa made into a 23" x 18" poster from an exhibition at the Robert Freidus Gallery.

This series of photographs contains drug use, nudity and guns, yet still manages to present a touching sense of humanity. Tulsa is a key work in post-war American photography, containing graphic photographs of sex, violence, and drug use in the Oklahoma suburb, much of which Clark participated in as well as documenting.

Larry Clark is an American photographer and filmmaker known for his raw and unfiltered depictions of youth culture. During the 1960s, Clark documented the culture of drug use and illicit activity of his friends in Tulsa, and his photographs from those years were published as Tulsa (1971).A near fine copy with crisp and fresh pages, and only light rubbing to the spine ends; in the original dust jacket with wear and a few tears to the spine ends, very light rubbing on the corners.

Because of his subsequent heroin addiction, it took Clark 10 years to complete Teenage Lust, which was finally published in 1983.Tulsa is a collection of black-and-white photographs by Larry Clark of the life of young people in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Clark's first hardcover edition of this work, dated 1971 (the year of the softcover original edition) but in reality published by Clark in 1979. I remember thinking, 'I have either got to burn all the negatives and shoot myself, or go down to LA and try and get it published.
