Description

GoPro Hero 12 comes with a highly optimized Enduro battery that can provide continuous recording times ranging from 70 to 155 minutes. This GoPro model comes with a battery capacity of 1500mAh, which is slightly less than the regular Hero 11.

It’s all rather vague. I have a lot of the older-model batteries on hand, so I’ve been trying to work out what exactly the warnings are referring to. I reached out to GoPro support, and they said that new (and newly updated) TimeWarp, HyperSmooth Boost, and Live Burst wouldn’t be available when using the older batteries. That makes sense. Those features require a lot of processing power from the camera’s chip, and that, in turn, pulls a lot of power from the battery. Whether you’re looking for a replacement battery or a spare (or two), here are the model numbers for GoPro batteries that correspond to GoPro cameras. GoPro’s default video capture profile exposes footage more than the Osmo Action’s, which pulls out more information from shadows. It’s also more inclined to blow out skies and hotspots though, particularly noticeable in darker scenes. Remember that while the power bank cable is plugged in, your GoPro becomes non-water-resistant. Solar Chargers It’s crucial to remember this simple relation before reading the following numbers. In this section, I’ll provide you with the average battery life range of 15 GoPro models: GoPro Model

This former flagship is now the GoPro sweet spot

To get your photos off the GoPro, you’ve got a few options. You could go old school and use a microSD card reader, or you can use the app on a phone, tablet or computer. The desktop app is a mixed bag - it didn’t recognize our device when plugged, though we were admittedly using a third-party cable, so we had to import them into it with an SD card reader. In some scenarios, such as using your GoPro from a long distance, the Quik app and remote control can be super handy.

Do you really need GPS, voice control, Wi-Fi, and LEDs all the time? If not, do yourself a favor and turn them off. 4. Store Your Batteries in a Warm Place As with the majority of 360° cameras, detail is sharpest towards the centre of each lens, and weakest towards the stitch line, so while users can be relaxed with their framing to an extent, they’ll still want to be mindful of that fact. Also, we noticed that chromatic aberration can creep in on occasion, with purple fringing visible between contrast-y areas of the image – the branches of a tree set against the sky being a prime example. In low light we also noticed some judder creeping in, so you’ll probably want to utilise a tripod in such circumstances; though we did manage to get usable results walking through well-illuminated city streets at night. Portable power banks can offer ample power for your GoPro to produce hours of footage. This external power source can provide your GoPro with two to ten times its standard battery life. GoPro Max and GoPro Hero 8 both have a built-in foldaway mount in the baseplate (Image credit: Basil Kronfli/Digital Camera World) The Hero 10 battery life can last from 47 to 120 minutes based on the set video mode and frame rate.

The battery of the 11 Mini is also non-removable, unlike the battery of the standard Hero 11. 4. GoPro Hero 10 Battery Life At the base are the folding feet, which fold out like butterfly wings, closing to create a traditional action camera mount. A removable waterproof door is on the left, underneath which is a microSD card slot and battery, and on the right is a power button. Up top, there’s a record button, while to the right is a power button. The big selling point with the GoPro Max, though, is of course that it shoots 5.6K footage in all directions. This 5.6K footage – captured at 6K resolution and stitched to 5.6K says GoPro – gives scope for comfortable 720P grade capture, with a fair bit of cropping in, and the colors delivered are commendably rich. GoPro has optimized the Hero 11 battery to provide 38% more recording time in moderate temperatures than previous versions. 3. GoPro Hero 11 Mini Battery Life If you go camping or on long trips often, having a portable solar charger can help you keep your GoPro battery charged.

Another consideration now that the HERO8 has been superseded by several newer models is that GoPro tends to stop making available offical GoPro-branded accessories for older models after a certain point. This means that, eventually, aftermarket versions are likely to become your only option. There’s more than one way to charge GoPro batteries. I’ve included the corresponding external battery charger models in the table above, but the batteries can also be charged directly in the camera (with a USB charger cable). The charger models I’ve listed above are the official ones put out by GoPro, but there are many aftermarket external charger cradles that also work well. If the temperature rises or drops extremely, it’ll deteriorate the battery’s performance and cause it to drain faster. That’s why I highly recommend using the mobile app or remote control only when necessary. This is to conserve as much battery power as possible. 7. Consider These Optional Tips The battery is also removable, so you can benefit from using spare batteries to shoot for extended periods of time. 7. GoPro Max Battery LifeGoPro Hero 8 has a battery life range of between 67 and 81 minutes, depending on the frame rate and recording resolution. The same goes for external battery chargers. The GoPro Dual Charger for the HERO8 batteries, for example, won’t work with HERO9 batteries. (But the Dual Charger for HERO9 batteries will work with the HERO10 batteries.) The safest option, and the one that doesn’t prompt the warning message and also works with the camera’s battery health detection, is to get the official GoPro-branded battery, model AJBAT-001.

That way, having extra batteries allows you to keep shooting for hours. When your standard battery runs out at any time, you’ll simply set in another one and continue. In some cases, there’s more than one model number that can be used in a particular camera. For instance, some batteries have been tweaked and replaced with newer iterations, along the lines of AHDBT-201 and AHDBT-301. In those cases, I’ve listed the most recent iteration, which is both the newer version and is generally more widely available. Things Worth Knowing About GoPro Batteries Both of our GoPro options here features a toughened build that makes them fit for their action-ready image-taking purpose. While that means that GoPro Max and 8 aren’t the sleekest looking image capture devices around – inevitably they’re distinctly boxy and functional – as noted at the outset of this comparison, practicality takes preference over curb appeal.

If the original GoPro battery is the safest option, the appeal of aftermarket batteries made by other manufacturers is that they often offer much better value. You can often get two or even three aftermarket batteries for the price of a single manufacturer-branded one. And in many cases, they’re just as good.
