I would highly recommend this book to other people it has an interesting story and it feels like it has multiple in the one story and talks about the other side of the war not the tanks, guns and shooting but the emotional side of it like death and tragedies.

Victory in sight

Look out for films on TV, including The Longest Day, Saving Private Ryan and Storming Juno. The TV series Band of Brothers starts with D-Day and is very powerful. There will be documentaries on TV too. But make sure what you are watching is age-appropriate. I was so happy the D-Day Dog was voted the overall winner at the 2020 Children’s Book Awards which is run by the wonderful Federation of Children’s Book Groups. The fact that over 100,000 children nominate, longlist, shortlist and choose the winners makes it all the more brilliant and satisfying for me. Thank you 100,000 times over. Omaha Beachhead". the Bury Grammar School Book Award 2020– Older Readers Category judged by all Yr 5 – 8 students across 4 schools Tom Palmer sensitively yet unflinchingly discusses the consequences and emotions involved in warfare. Brilliantly researched, the book is full of fascinating facts which are woven together to create a truly moving and gripping read … leave time for conversations afterwards. The ideas and issues contained within this simple and compelling story are too important to gloss over.” Books for Topics

Please feel free to share them among your colleagues and networks. This is such a special place to visit on our D Day landings tour and a fitting way to commemorate the role of animals, not only in Normandy, but throughout the Second World War The Canadian drive from Juno yielded the deepest Allied penetration on D-Day; the Third Division occupied the airfield at Carpiquet west of Caen. Three phase lines were determined for the inland advance from Juno—Yew, Elm, and Oak—the latter just beyond the Caen-Bayeux highway. By midnight about 21,400 troops had landed on Juno. Commanding the Western Task Force responsible for landing troops on the American beaches was Rear Adm. Alan G. Kirk. The Utah landings were supervised by Rear Adm. Don P. Moon. a b "Omaha Beachhead". L/16 eventually landed, 30 minutes late, to the left of Fox Green, taking casualties as the boats ran in and more as they crossed the 200 yards (180m) of beach. The terrain at the very eastern end of Omaha gave them enough protection to allow the 125 survivors to organize and begin an assault of the bluffs. They were the only company in the first wave able to operate as a unit. [53] All the other companies were, at best, disorganized, mostly leaderless and pinned down behind the shingle with no hope of carrying out their assault missions. At worst, they had ceased to exist as fighting units. Nearly all had landed at least a few hundred yards off target, and in an intricately planned operation where each section on each boat had been assigned a specific task, this was enough to throw the whole plan off. Survivors of C company 2nd Rangers in the first wave landed on Dog Green around 06:45; by 07:30, they had scaled the cliffs near Dog Green and the Vierville draw. They were joined later by a mis-landed section from B/116, and this group spent the better part of the day tying up and eventually taking WN-73, which defended draw D-1 at Vierville. [72] [74]That is until he reads about what happened to his soldier and the dog he trained to parachute out of an I would definitely recommend this book to other students. It is incredibly well written and filled with exciting moments. With every history book I read, I learn something new, and this book is no exception. I learned all about the different animals they used in the war, and all the different types of animals, the trust that grows between people, and all the rest. Along with the infantry landing in the second wave, supporting arms began to arrive, meeting the same chaos and destruction as had the rifle companies. Combat engineers, tasked with clearing the exits and marking beaches, landed off-target and without their equipment.

As a result, a relatively small force of about 160 Royal Air Force technical personnel, together with their attached supporting Signals and other units, were scheduled to land on Omaha beach in Normandy at high tide on D-Day (about 11:00hrs), immediately after the first waves of American assault troops had secured the beach and their Engineers had made it safe. In the line of fire

What most stands out from the book is that it’s set in the present and talks about the different side of the world war it talks about a particular person and animal rather than the whole war.
