I am planning to use a dark gray quartz countertop (copper mist by silastone),white backsplash and off white walls. For pre-finished furniture and antiques, check compatibility, then apply Briwax Original Wax in small areas with a clean soft cloth. As for paint color, yes I would probably bring the paint color thoughout to give it a cohesive flow.

Yes, I would think you could use it on maple cabinets also, but with the tighter grain, I would expect that results wouldn’t be as obvious. If the surface is well sanded and carefully finished, we've found that Danish Oil is resistant even to hot water. However, we wouldn't suggest using Danish Oil where the surface is likely to be used for cutting; sharp knives can cut through the surface into the wood, which will allow water to get into the wood at a later stage and damage the finish. I wondered if you’ve had any other experiences with the wax on other projects since your original post… thanks! Improved shine and durability can be achieved by first sealing the surface with Briwax Sanding Sealer.I am going to put beadboard on the sides and then I can stain it to match or paint it a color to accent the kitchen! Some people even like to apply four coats, if the floor is particularly heavily used or subject to water, such as a kitchen or entranceway. Wax is not waterproof, and if spills are allowed to stay on waxed surfaces they can cause white spotting or watermarks. I’ve mentioned my new little love of Briwax ( check out my whole kitchen post here), but I thought it would help if I showed you some detail on how it worked. Two thin coats are sufficient for most purposes on bare wood, but for kitchen worktops, floors, external doors and tables use four coats, which if applied carefully will give a water-resistant finish, even for hot cups of coffee!

Briwax spirit-based dyes are based on methylated spirits, so you can lighten the colour by adding methylated spirits. I needed to do something similar in my Split Decision house, and I used painters tape to protect the ceiling. In between the chaos of being a scatterbrained mom of 3 and a real estate investor, I love trying new things with my saw, paint brush, camera… I’m a Jane of all trades but master of none. For the first coat use Briwax Danish Oil neat, or thinned slightly with about 10% mineral turpentine. The good thing is that since it is perpendicular to the fronts, you can’t really tell that they don’t completely match.

I found it easy to use a little extra and then just wipe off rather than trying to spread too little around. If you like the colour of the timber already, simply miss out this step and apply Briwax Oils directly to the bare wood. This way you make sure there's enough oil in the timber, but you don't run the risk of creating a 'surface’ of Danish Oil on top of the wood. Unlike many other finishes such as wood stains, Briwax Spirit-based dyes are not a finish in themselves. PaintWell increased its Industrial Paints offering with the acquisition of Promain UK Limited, the preferred UK distributor for many of the world’s leading paint and surface coatings manufacturers. After about 10 minutes, the wax will have hardened, and you can buff it to a deep shine with a soft cloth. However, if you allow the surface to remain wet for a long time, the watermark will get into the wood, and applying more wax won't solve this. Just enough to make it smooth or did you have to put some elbow grease into it to really remove the excess wax? A professional appearance, improved shine and more durable finish can be obtained by sealing the wood.

If you have a kitchen from the 1990’s like me, you probably have honey oak cabinets that you want to update. Unfortunately, I think the wax would accentuate the scratches more as it will stay embedded and make them darker. When I was buffing, I found that once I started rubbing, the surface would get a little tacky/ sticky, and then as I continued rubbing it would become super smooth and slick. My kitchen cabinets didn’t have any handles to being with, so this was the perfect time to add some. Briwax is most commonly used to clean and protect antique furniture but can also be used on wood floors and kitchen cabinets that have laquer based finishes.I loved this post and used Briwax a few months ago on a bathroom vanity but then ended up having to do a more in depth reno and took that vanity out. If the surface is more seriously damaged, sand it lightly first and apply one or two coats of Danish Oil. It is ideal for use on wood carvings and turned wood, skirting boards and doors, and is widely used in the pine furniture industry.
