Not so easy for Naomi who has happy memories in her home, along with the fact that she's now making a life for herself, and it's fascinating to see how that relationship with her daughters plays out.

Heartbroken, she flees London to go to Larkspur House in Suffolk to be with her great aunt Bess and the renown garden designer Elfrida Ambrose. However, the story then gets a little contrived with a rather irritatingly simple solution that feels too easy. We get to meet Naomi and her daughters Martha and Willow, this is a moving and emotional story and so beautifully told. For Martha, it is the challenge of falling pregnant; Willow, on the other hand, feels trapped in a new relationship and wonders if she should settle with Rick because of everyone else’s approval.Set in the English village of Tilsham near Chichester, Sussex, this was a family drama style story and it had the usual depth that I have come to associate with the author's superb writing.

Each woman has their own memory of Colin who casts his shadow over their lives, even after his death. Willow has a new boyfriend Rick who at first everyone thinks is just what Willow needs in her life, even her father would approve of Rick but Willow is not sure if he is the right guy. My twenty-fifth novel - A Secret Garden Affair - was published in the spring of 2023 and is my second book to be published by HQ Stories. Now widowed, Naomi is building a new life alone, but the arrival of Ellis next door is bringing some long-awaited fun back too.Just over two years ago, Naomi’s husband, Colin, and the father of both her daughters, died suddenly leaving her a widow in the Tilsham cottage the family once shared. I thought the author really brought the characters and the beautiful setting to life in such a way I felt like I had travelled to Anchor House as a guest. You'll be swept away then brought gently back to harbour in this beautiful portrait of a family and its multigenerational secrets.

There were others that raised red flags almost immediately and I found myself shaking my head in disbelief and shock. You’ll be swept away then brought gently back to harbour in this beautiful portrait of a family and its multigenerational secrets. Erica James is the author of twenty-three internationally bestselling novels, with recent Sunday Times Top Ten bestsellers including Swallowtail Summer, Coming Home to Island House and, most recently the hardback bestseller, Letters from the Past. Erica James is most firmly on my favourite author list; I’ve read virtually all of her books over the years from the very first one and she never disappoints. Naomi is the mum, recently widowed, so trying to begin a new life for herself now that her main priority is herself.

Naomi loves her two girls, but when she meets an old friend it upsets the equilibrium and, although they think they know everything about their mother, Naomi, like most of us, has her secrets – and she’s not the only one. Ellis Ashton moves into Waterside Cottage next door to Naomi, and they have been dating for two months.

Biography: Erica James is the author of twenty-three internationally bestselling novels, with recent Sunday Times Top Ten bestsellers including Swallowtail Summer, Coming Home to Island House and, most recently the hardback bestseller, Letters from the Past. Now I’ve read this one I’m going to try and read the ones I’ve missed plus re-read the others I haven’t. She tries to enlist Willows help who is not so sure and feels her mum should stay in their family home. It covers some significant issues many of us face in life; relationship problems, infertility, pregnancy, step families etc. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products.

I am sorry to say that it was so predictable and I did not find the characters had depth as they usually do. Martha has other ideas and wants her mother to sell her home and move closer to the girls, this causes some major problems with the normal flow of family life with them. I enjoyed seeing Willow and Martha come together as sisters, and then become accepting of their mother’s decisions. Naomi doesn’t know how to tell her daughters about Ellis, especially Martha, she was very close to her father and she won’t be happy.
