The text on the left side of the page has different fonts and colors and is just as vivid as the critter it describes. I don’t think it will take too long before toddlers are recognizing certain words and asking you to read this book over and over. It was a hit with my daughter when she was into textures (all animal in the book have rubberized textures: feathers, quills, etc. He was super cautious about touching the book at first but now loves touching it and giggling and babbling over it. And in my opinion, if you’re attempting to teach recognition of various words, this makes it easier to do.While illustrations are 5+, the text often has choppy rhythms that are sometimes awkward to read and while there is occasionally a bit of rhyme, the authors do not seem to work very hard at finding synonyms that might actually provide that component. Story is meh (I feel defiant about all these no animal touching statements 🤣) but the silicone textures are great. The silicone textures provided for touching and various colors and designs feel perfect for this type of book. We may have been the very first family to borrow this from the library, because all the pages were incredibly clean. Not so with this terrific series that has a boldly colored animal on the right side of every page with a large section of that creature containing a contrasting color of distinctively bumpy, swirly, and/or striated rubbery-ness.
