Description

With clear liquid clay, it creates more of a glass like effect. So for projects where you want to see through the clay, you would use this. Also, some people like to use this as you would use resin to encase an art form or small object. Use the right kind of oven: Only use a conventional home oven or toaster oven for baking your clay, never a microwave. To use your Liquid Sculpey®, twist open the cap and gently squeeze while moving your hand in a smooth, even motion, and try these ways to create: You only need to seal and protect what you put ON the surface of your polymer clay project. When you apply mica powders, chalks, glitter, or metal leaf to the surface of your polymer clay project, it will need to be protected if the item is subject to wear. Note thatlight dustings of chalk or mica, such as rosy cheeks on a sculpture, do not need to be sealed. The same holds true for dots of paint and antiquing in the recessed areas of a design. Preserve objects: Suspend dried leaves, pressed flowers, spices, shells and paper cutouts in transparent liquid clay. Botanical details must be completely dried, as moisture can affect final quality. Fill a mold halfway with Liquid Sculpey ® Clear and bake it, then place your object, fill the mold to the top and then bake again. Create mixed-media projects in layers using different objects and effects.

It is so sad to work hard creating something that breaks when it’s worn or used. It’s even more horrifying to realize that you’ve sold something that is made from weak clay and won’t be durable. Not all polymer clay brands are created equal and each has its uses and purposes. For making things that are thin or have areas that are thinner than 1/4″ (6mm), make sure that you’re using a strong clay such as Premo, Fimo, Pardo, Kato, Cernit, or Souffle. Sculpey III, Original Sculpey, Super Sculpey, and Bake Shop are all quite brittle after baking and should not be used, unsupported, in any area thinner than 1/4″ (6mm). These weaker brands do have their uses, however, so save them for other projects. Here’s more about choosing the best brand of polymer clay for your project. As always, make sure you wash your hands before and after each time you work with polymer clay. What are the different types of polymer clay? Coloured Liquid Sculpey is available in the UK but it took me a while to find any shops that sell it, and those that do, don’t have a huge range of colours. Craft Cellar sell a couple of Metallic Coloured Liquid Sculpey colours. Perles & Co sell the Glam Metallics and Primary ranges – they’re a French company which ship all over the world and from what I could see, the postage was pretty reasonable. And that was about it for buying Coloured Liquid Sculpey! How Do You Apply Liquid Polymer Clay? Oven-safe mat: Go from creating to baking with the silicone Sculpey Tools™ Oven-Safe Work Mat, which doubles as work surface protection. Make-up – I’ve used powder eye shadow to colour clay and it works great, probably because it’s made of mica!

Twist the cap open a tiny bit and gently squeeze to draw controlled lines, words and patterns. Drizzle Liquid Sculpey ® directly onto a newly baked polymer clay piece that’s still warm from the oven to add swirls, zigzags, dots and other designs. The liquid clay will start to set up on the warm clay. If you use a plastic container, just make sure it’s safe to use with polymer clay, as some plastic can react to clay and the clay will rot it. I’ve done a whole blog post about storing polymer clay correctly that you can read here.

5. Using a Spray Varnish on Polymer Clay

Apparently, you can use oil pastels, but unless you want to spend two hours mixing, I’m not sure how good an idea this is. If you’re only using a little bit at a time, then you won’t need to worry about storage as the liquid clay can just stay in the bottle. If you’re mixing larger amounts of clay with colours then you can store these in a range of containers:
