I have to admit that I was concerned going into this one as it's set in the 1960s and I'm not usually a fan of historical fiction. I always read her new books when they come out, though over the years some have not been as memorable as others. It's 1964 and Meg, in her 20s, is working as a chef in a kitchen - very much a man's preserve back then. Justin and Meg may clash in the kitchen, but their chemistry is strong and there is enough interaction for their relationship to be credible.

He pops around, here and there, and I kinda wish we could get into his head, (I understand why we can't). The characters were very well rounded and you instantly become invested in the storyline, the characters, and the beautiful old hotel. Andrew has been running the hotel for two years but has to go to France to sort out some legal things regarding his father.

I bet you’re sitting there thinking, ‘Oh, here she goes again with her I-don’t-know-if-I-wanted-to-smack-him-or-climb-him-like-a-tree thing again! Just as Meg arrives, the chef who has caused all the trouble walks out, and she suddenly finds herself running a kitchen sooner than she has anticipated. This is 1966 and a pivotal point in history when life is gradually opening up with new opportunities for women. It was used as the name for television episodes in such TV series as The Simpsons, Last of the Summer Wine, Man About the House, and Bless This House. An Era's Bias, Cast In Bali Ha'i Relief; With South Pacific, Arena Stage Takes On A Troubling Zeitgeist".

Ever since she can remember, Meg Sanderson has wanted to be a professional cook but it’s 1964 and, in restaurant kitchens all over England, it is still very much a man’s world. I could go on and on about how great she is so please just go and grab some of her books so you can love her writing too. Louise and Andrew were a lovely couple too, the mother daughter relationship was written really well, especially with the age difference not huge. Katie lives in Stroud, Gloucestershire, England with her husband, some of her three children and many pets.He describes a man seeing a stranger and instantly knowing he will see her again, hearing her laughter and dreaming of it. Conflict-wise, I felt that many situations in the book were solved almost too quickly and too conveniently, that there is no actual time where I truly felt afraid for Meg. Inevitably, there are all the dramas and misunderstandings that make the course of love run un-smooth, and they make the wonderful ending all the more heart-warming. He sings that when you find your "true love", you must "fly to her side, and make her your own, / Or all through your life you may dream all alone.
