OH likes Butler/Belfast sinks and I admit they look so nice but I have a feeling not as practical as an 'ordinary'sink, at present I have a stainless steel with one and half bowls which is so handy when preparing veg. I am not sure of they still do them but IKEA did do a large sink similar to a Belfast which was evenly divided into two. I had a Belfast sink in my old house and it was one of my essential requirements for my new kitchen.

I agree they are absolutely right in a utility room but we no longer have one of those so when we built the new kitchen I weighed up the pros and cons and found I couldn't do without the dog washing/plant watering/veg prep/pan soaking facilities so the Belfast sink won.It’s a bit smaller than my sink , so if it’s in use , say with dishes soaking, I can still rinse things from the tap at the side of it while I’m cooking . Glasses first, then cutlery (rinsed under cold water first if particularly mucky), then the cleanest plates and bowls, working up to the dirtiest. Fun and simple to use for stunning effects – highlighting detail, edging, handles, mouldings and more. I would always go for a double, space permitting, but it's better to have one large sink than two that are both too small. I’ve seen cheaper imitations and they feel quite nasty by comparison and will probably need replacing multiple times in a JJ one’s lifetime.

I used to have a double one in my old kitchen but when we redesigned it DH won the toss and got a stainless steel sink to replace it. Last episode Kate said her granny used the bowl to tip the washing up water on her roses, and lots of you feel the same – Sue Fox even points out that eco washing up liquid is good for controlling aphids!I have a picture of my son in an ordinary sink, and I would post it here as proof but for the fact he would retaliate by posting an embarrassing picture of me on his Facebook site.
