The Trade Awards celebrate everyone from independent bookshops, and regional small presses, to the industry’s largest players, from agents championing debut authors to marketers and publicists finding the most creative routes to readers. The book industry is an intricate and deeply collaborative ecosystem, and we are here to shine a light on every bit of it. The Diamond Kahn & Woods Literary Agency punches above its weight in the trade, and genre fiction authors Carolynn Bain’s remarkable work serves as a reminder of how bookselling is not just a commercial enterprise but a powerful force for social justice and good. The British Book Awards judges liked EUP’s strong collaboration with publishing partners and institutions, its smart long-term investment in business systems and analytics, and the way it responded nimbly to fill gaps in its academic fields. “They consistently make sensible invest- ment and publishing decisions.” The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida Shehan Karunatilaka, narrated by Shivantha Wijesinha Bolinda Audio

Book Awards The Bookseller - Awards - The British Book Awards

HarperCollins shrugged off all the supply, distribution and inflation issues of 2022 to scoop this award from a notably strong shortlist. What the Ladybird Heard at Christmas Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Lydia Monks Macmillan Children's Books Children can so easily use this book and their own favourite traditional tales to create their own version of a monster who travels through books. The illustrations in the book are beautiful and will delight both kids and adults. The age recommended in the version was 3 to 5 years, but kids from all ages will enjoy not only be told the story, but going through the way (holes) the character did in the books. Have fun. I did! 😉 Its first trophy came in 2016, the year it won the second of two consecutive Booker Prizes. That kind of recognition can unbalance a small publisher, but after several years of consolidation Oneworld moved up a gear in 2022, with zeitgeist-capturing literary publishing and best-ever sales and profits. The judges also admired EUP’s diversity and inclusion initiatives, including an overhaul of recruitment practices, a mentoring scheme and sessions on neurodiversity. It made strides on reducing its environmental impact by developing a Sustainability Plan and took excellent care of its teams and authors. “This was my best publishing experience ever—perfect from start to finish,” said one grateful academic. If the turn outs in the stories weren’t enough to make you laugh, the version I had had real holes in my ages showing how He makes his way through the books, and that alone is worthy many smiles.

Nibbles Board Books Series by Emma Yarlett - Goodreads Nibbles Board Books Series by Emma Yarlett - Goodreads

The book is riddled with holes here and there, holes through which Nibbles ate himself a way out. I loved that they were added it made the book so much more fun.S&S’ children’s division had a best-ever year of sales and profits, increasing its TCM turnover by a fifth—and by more than half since 2019. Picture books, fiction and audio were all in substantial double-digit growth, and international exports, rights and co-editions hit record highs. While brands like Supertato and Ben Miller were strong, the undoubted highlight was A F Steadman’s Skandar and the Unicorn Thief, the Waterstones Children’s Book of the Year and the top children’s début fiction title. You Can Do It: How to Find Your Voice and Make a Difference Marcus Rashford with Carl Anka Macmillan Children's Books This book is adorable. It is interactive and stars a wee monster that you gotta love even though he is naughty. He, like Houdini, is an escape artist, and when gets out of his cage he heads straight for his first love.... his love of eating books! Yep, Nibbles is a book monster! Some ideas for this book would be to discuss the similarities and differences between the folklore stories to compared to the original or a different version. There are many similarities and differences that the students could find. They could create a Venn Diagram to show the similarities and differences. Since there are a few different versions mentioned within the Book Monster, the teacher would have great examples to do a teacher model, a we do example, and a student do. Also, students could complete a sequence of events for the Book Monster to explain what happened throughout the story. Students could also write about what they think will happen next to Nibbles. Students could create their own story about Nibbles and his next adventure. Lastly, the teacher could have a discussion about how students know that this is a fractured fairy-tale/folklore story and how this story is different from nonfiction.
