We’ve created MuseNet, a deep neural network that can generate 4-minute musical compositions with 10 different instruments, and can combine styles from country to Mozart to the Beatles. We created composer and instrumentation tokens to give more control over the kinds of samples MuseNet generates.

MUSeum NETwork, is a project about Audience Development devised for a network of European culture institutions from four EU countries. In this final volume, we follow the artist Musnet as he works, and struggles, to make his life as an artist. Also on the property is a friendly mouse family who takes the main character in and a cantankerous, old artist squirrel name Remi (cough, Rembrandt) who the main character apprentices with. You will root for Musnet as he works hard, has adventures and falls in love with making art (in an impressionist style very much like Monet’s). MuseNet was not explicitly programmed with our understanding of music, but instead discovered patterns of harmony, rhythm, and style by learning to predict the next token in hundreds of thousands of MIDI files.Introduced to painting after he begins working for Remy, an old squirrel painter, he is enchanted by Monet’s work. Take a friendly and likable orphaned mouse, place him in a beautifully rendered watercolor and ink medium with miniature Monet masterpieces and you get a stunning and engaging story of a mouse learning to become an artist. Musnet is the sort of book I’d have absolutely loved as a child, and it’s something I hope lots of children get to read. Generations will be more natural if you pick instruments closest to the composer or band’s usual style. This new series revolves around a painting mouse found in Monet’s famous gardens in Giverny: the nameless, orphan mouse is befriended by Mya and her mouse family, who live inside the artist’s house.
