Description

Whether you were raised in a family where you had to grow up faster than you wanted to, you take on more than your fair share of the responsibilities at home and at work, or you feel like the wellbeing of those around you and the world at large are your job to take care of, I see you and I get you because I have also experienced all of those things.

And in that moment I realised that the option of life was in front of me and decided my business was making me ill. It was an early spring day in New York, and I was wearing these kind of weird light-wash jeans that were too big for me at the waist and that, due to a tailoring incident, had a raw hem that was just a hair too short. Unfortunately, it is often misunderstood, feared, misused, and ignored because we live in a patriarchy that has taught us to devalue or fear that which is not traditionally masculine. I LOVED being a mother the 4 boys and found a work/life balance that worked for me by having partime office hours but working from home as well…. She has 14 experiments in useful areas as sleep and asking for help, but the chapters are heavy on anecdotal stories from her online community that she plugs in and after the book, and low on actual detailed experiments.I inhaled this book because it illuminates a language about women and work that I've lived by without realizing it. Marie: Yeah, whatever you want to do or be like Kate and I and take a salsa class together, which is what we did the last time. The addiction to busyness and the obsession with always trying to do more leads women, especially working mothers, to feel like they're always failing their families, their careers, their spouses, and themselves.

Just what I mean is, do less of the things that don’t matter, do less of the things that drain you, do less of the things that don’t get you results, so you can do more of the things that energize you, that light you up, that get you amazing results. I heard about Kate Northrup’s book Do Less two years ago in an interview she did on the Marie Forleo podcast and MarieTV. Marie: Hey, it’s Marie Forleo and you are watching MarieTV, the place to be to create a business and life you love. Whether it’s certain projects, certain programs, certain relationships, certain experiences, that when you start to get a little bit of that perspective, you can see really what produces the greatest results, both financially but also emotionally, right?I mean, amazing and we were tracking for analytics and also list growth and they just weren’t performing. It’s related to stress and stress is obviously related to our obsession with doing but I am not about sacrificing results.

Kate Northrup introduces the book by stating she wants it to be a book for “everyone”- yet goes on to give the most classist, privileged guidance possible.Sentences that made me wonder if I should stop reading were: "But the craving for chips wasn't coming from a place of emotional emptiness or stress where I was trying to cover something I didn't want to feel with salt and fat.

Can you share the story about the friend that you had who you love her and she was fun and vivacious but she also came with a lot of drama?Examples: "If you find yourself wearing your cranky pants six out of seven days of the week, something's gotta give, lady. but as a long time meditator, the ‘too much in our daily life these days’, and the idea of ‘being more purposeful by doing less’ makes great sense to me. Marie: It’s a way to avoid a lot of things like intimacy, a lot of our emotions, connection, any challenges or problems that we might have that busyness can kind of cover up for. There was a little bit of that in some of the experiments- making a weekly instead of daily to do list, for example, is something I will definitely try. I moved to Vancouver, Canada 7 years this March, alone, from my home London,England to find myself and heal myself.
