With its 4K Ultra HD resolution, you can enjoy content in a stunningly detailed picture with over 8 million pixels. Video processing and motion are also decent at this level of product with a slightly soft look to HD upscaled content, but one that doesn’t introduce edge enhancement artefacts.

Motion is also decent and the upscaling, while a little soft, is also clean and free from overly digital-looking sharpening. Viewing angles are poor as we would expect from this type of VA panel with brightness, colour and gamma shift seen as soon as you move 30 degrees off-axis to the sides or get above or below the set. There is also support for gaming enthusiasts via TCL Games Master Pro with a native 144Hz panel and the ability to use this via HDMI 1, plus there is support for 4K/120 via HDMI 2, AMD Freesync premium, ALLM (Auto Low Latency mode) and VRR (Variable refresh rate). Unfortunately, it has its siblings' poor image processing, especially regarding low-quality content smoothing, which is inadequate. The TV has a few quirks, like its otherwise very fast refresh rate functioning in 'brackets', and not being able to have both Game Mode and Chroma 4:4:4 simultaneously, but it's a fantastic performer overall. Stick to a normal room environment with some ambient lighting and when watching directly onto the screen the TCL gives a very good account of itself picture-wise. The second remote is a smaller shiny plastic affair with a reduced button count, more direct access streaming keys and a directional pad and enter key towards the top of the unit.We are reviewing the 55-inch version of the TCL C735 and given other screen sizes use similar panels, performance should be reasonably similar, but we cannot guarantee that will be the case given the usual differences in LCD panel to panel.
