I know all the chess players here have already written love letters to this book, but I could not let that stop me from writing mine. I highly recommend this book to both beginners and experienced players, and would strongly suggest you play these games out, move by move, on a physical (or indeed electronic) board as you read through them in the book. Chernev has a way with words and always finds something interesting to say about the first move, even though through the course of the 33 games he mostly has words to say about the King's Pawn (1. Chernev's writing style is something I enjoy also and overall I would recommend this book to anyone who still commonly uses and reads Descriptive(English) Notation. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. My first chess book was a Dover paperback copy of Irving Chernev's "The Most Instructive Games Ever Played".I would've liked a summary of all the italicized quotes, because I feel like those are the main key take aways. Part one is mostly 1e4 openings with a kingside attack where white dominates after forcing black to move a kingside pawn.
