Reflecting the island’s French colonial roots, it’s made from sugar cane juice, similar to rhum agricole. This rum is produced by the Grays, the same fine folk behind the excellent New Grove series, in collaboration with Bordeaux winemakers the Milhade family. This blend consists of different vintage rums that have matured for at least 12 years and then undergoes a short ageing period in American white oak barrels. Aged for 12 years, it's smooth for some, harsh for others, with a polarizing aroma and short finish. What makes it unique is that during the aging process, fresh bananas, vanilla and red fruits are left to macerate in the French oak barrels. that's adding fuel to the fire -not at all impressed at the service hoping it will be delivered by the 7th paid for a speedier service appears not to be the case -disappointed to say the least!
